I don't have any signs. If someone knocks I ignore it.

Default Whats Your Sign
This is on my front door, Had the bottom one made today.
I have a small front porch and anybody that knocks is right at the door and face to face with the dogs if i open it. This serves several purposes ... one it keeps them back from the dogs, Two it keeps them from getting hurt if they fall down stairs after being startled, and Third..keeps them in front of the peep hole so i can see who it is.

Me either. No one knocks on my door, unless it's people I've invited over. And they know about the pup and how to react to him (don't pet him, or acknowledge him until he's using his manners) because I tell them before they come. And I don't answer the door for strangers. Lol

I have a lawyer friend who advises only putting up "silly" dog signs. He said that if you have a "beware of dog" sign, you are stating that you know you have a mean dog, and IF something were to happen to some idiot, it could be used against you in court.

I don't have a sign either. My dogs enjoy lounging in the windows out front. I guess that is a good enough warning, lol.

Meh I have Private Property signs posted on each end of my property and beware Of Dog signs on Snows Pin.

I wish people would stop and look at the whole picture though. If the sign says 'beware of dog' that kinda means that the dog is mean and if you were smart you would stay away. But a lot of people are so stupid now days and push the limits of dogs; even to do so because they don't like the breed or such. I plan on getting a custom sign one day that says 'Private Property w/ Dogs on land' to post up around in place of the just 'private property' signs.

I think that if there is a sign warning you and you do it anyways you (the person who went against the sign) should get in trouble. :/ thats what would happen if you stuck your hand in toxic waste after the sign said 'warning toxic waste'. :/

I saw a sign on that linked website that said "DOGS ON YARD PLEASE CLOSE GATE". I see a couple of those in my future.

I wouldn't put a sign like that up for the reasons that ownedbyBOO posted. Personally, I have no reason to put a sign up at all. Signs like this are just asking for trouble IMO.

When you add another post, it glitches to show up as a double post. When you refresh the page, the double post goes away.

I have to many people coming to the door. UPS and fex as well as alot of the kids in the neighborhood wanting to play with mine. Mine would not hurt them but they get excited when they hear a knock that it takes a min to get all three back and calmed down. I have one ups driver that knocks and goes back to his truck and waits....he his trained very well lol
If i lived in a nice neighborhood maybe not have any sign at all but its not as nice as it used to be and getting worse by the day and i need them to be aware.

If you don't want people knocking that put up a sign that requests that people not knock on the door. If you have to get the dogs calmed down before you open the door then do so or put them behind a gate. My dogs are always stashed behind a gate if someone comes to the door. It also prevents accidents such as a dog darting out of the house when the door is opened.

Get an alarm system and a gun if you need protection. Don't rely on a dog (probably untrained in protection) to do the job.

I too use a (tall baby) gate that separates the dogs from the front door area. Works well !!!
The dogs know they have to be on the other side of the gate before I will open the door.

Ha! They KNOW?! Bentley is kind of an idiot and when the doorbell rings, he runs upstairs because the front bedroom is the only window in the front of the house. So he darts up the stairs to look out the window and I put the gate up to block him on the stairs.

Well, I still have to call them with a "come on" and place them behind the gate, but they don't hesitate.

It IS true that a Beware of Dog sign can be used against you if your dog does bite someone. A Dog on Premises sign releases you of that liability.

That being said - I don't have signs. I live in the middle of no where, and you'll see/hear my dogs before you get a chance to read any sign on my fence!

We have a sign out on our gate entrance to the driveway that just says "Caution: Dogs on premises."
