Get an alarm system and a gun if you need protection. Don't rely on a dog (probably untrained in protection) to do the job.
LOL I hold a FFL and do alot of gunsmithing as well as a avid collector, believe me dogs are not my first line of defense

I have a sign that says "Dogs On Watch Here". My neighbor was sued because he keeps his dog tied up outside and someone went into the yard to pet the dog and was bitten. The reason the owner got in trouble for it was because he didn't have a sign up warning people about the dog's temperment.

What if you had a sign that said "Beware of Dogs" and then underneath "Enter at your own risk, we will not be held legally responsible for ignoring the above posted sign" hahahaha

I put time in at a law office in return for the immigration lawyer to help me. I'm pretty sure there's a way to get around everything by posting shit like that.

I too use a (tall baby) gate that separates the dogs from the front door area. Works well !!!
The dogs know they have to be on the other side of the gate before I will open the door.
^ That; and Veronica announces herself...anyone who comes near the house can hear her a mile away.

She is very loud for frankly such a little dog.

I like "Dog On Premises"
I have to amend my old post in those other threads about dog signs.
I said my dog would let anyone in the gate.
Well that has changed. She runs the fence and barks at the mailman, UPS, Fed Ex.
The Fed Ex lady is here a lot and leaves the packages outside the gate with dog bones on top.
Outside the gate she wouldn't bark at any of them.

We have no issues with people coming in to the fence thankfully so I don't see the need for a sign but god forbid some one does come in and Serenity isn't on her zip line. The people we know personally know not to go in the side gate and if they do, they are frigging idiots (example, my brother had to learn the hard way twice). I some days wonder, should I put one up, just in case some one comes in but I can't see that happening.

Shutter, I like your sign!

I always liked "trespassers will be shot. Survivors will be shot again."

Me either. No one knocks on my door, unless it's people I've invited over. And they know about the pup and how to react to him (don't pet him, or acknowledge him until he's using his manners) because I tell them before they come. And I don't answer the door for strangers. Lol
haha That's exactly how it is at my place!

I have a lawyer friend who advises only putting up "silly" dog signs. He said that if you have a "beware of dog" sign, you are stating that you know you have a mean dog, and IF something were to happen to some idiot, it could be used against you in court.
That's what I've heard too. If I ever needed a sign I'd have the "Dog on Premises" one.

I kind of feel like making a sign that says "please do not knock. instead call this number: ****** and I will come to the door"

for some reason, people always seem to catch me off guard when I am in the middle of something and the dogs are upstairs with me. then I barely have time to get them out of the way until I have to answer the door. and if I do, they go to the window and knock the table over.

I need to teach them to stay in "places" until I can answer the door
