Hell, go on and neuter the dog if you think it's balls are ugly. (That's one reason you do it isn't it Kady? Totally reasonable. I'm pro-cropping so it'd be hypocritical of me to say otherwise.) I said people being irresponsible was "one reason", I didn't feel like listing them all. I've known a few intact males that got testicular cancer.. can't get that without testicles! I'll always be someone who would rather see a dog spayed/neutered vs. being kept intact, ESPECIALLY a rescue or a mutt. But that's just me. |

I've gotten hundreds of puppies fixed over the past 10+ years through different rescues I've worked with and I keep in touch with a lot of adopters, I've never had anyone complain that it led to health issues later down the road. I got Tank neutered when he was 12 weeks old and I've never regretted it. My 10 year old male Chihuahua/Westie mix was neutered at 8 weeks old and he's never had a single health issue. Too many oops litters happen with pit bulls, 70% of the dogs in metro Atlanta shelters are pit bull type dogs. The more they keep being irresponsibly reproduced, the more they will continue to end up with irresponsible owners who put pit bulls in a bad light. I've had so many people tell me they aren't getting their dog fixed because they'll properly contain it, only to later beg me to take in a litter of puppies from an oops litter. Anyone, anywhere can fill out this short application to get financial assistance to pay for a pit bull to get spayed or neutered: http://www.pbrc.net/fund/ap_neuter.html

No.... it won't be that bad if you keep him well exercised and engaged in activities. I know A LOT of intact male dogs that are well behaved, not frustrated, and actually handle themselves well around females. Now if you keep him around intact females in heat all the time then yes, you will have a problem. This. My male Saluki didn't even notice such a thing as a bitch in season until these past few months, and he's lived with one the entire time he's been here! But because we train and hunt so much, he doesn't have time to "think" about anything else lol. He also handles himself really well around bitches in season. I used to be extremely pro neuter/spay. If you search for pictures of my male, Ruger, in the photography section... He was neutered at 7 months and his muscle tone has always been really nice. Genetics, and lots of activities! But at the same time, I have a bitch with spay incontinence and my male's hip dysplasia and other issues, I believe wouldn't be SO extreme had I left him intact longer. So, like others have said... I think it's best to do your research, look at all the different sides (not just health reasons, but responsibility in owning an intact dog)... and then make your decision ![]() |

Pet dogs of the general public should be neutered. |

I think because he will be so active were gunna wait until he's about 2 years old to chop em. We wanna make sure that he doesn't get stunted growth or any problems, but were just gunna have to see how he is growing to make our final decision. :] Thanks everyone! Your all so helpful, I need a forum for my everyday life so other people can make decisions for me hahaha.
