Luna loves getting showers also, but I know bathing her too often isnt good on her coat. Tomorrow she has an appt to get more of her puppy shots so I am going to have him look at the spot o nher back. But today I found some deodorizing spray for dogs from the Pet Head brand, so far its working pretty well, very perfumey at first but it is still nice, I got her the Blackberry Vanilla scent.

I have bathed Sema once in the 10 months I've had her and I hope to God I never have to again. She hates water, being wet, the sound of running water, etc...that being said, she doesn't smell. If she gets exceptionally dirty, which is rare because she hates mud too, I wipe her down with some hypoallergenic baby wipes.

i currently feed her Authority- Lamb... it hasnt really rained here ( or while i was awake to take her out) so i dont think thats it. She did have a corn chippy kind of smell I guess a few weeks ago but I switched her from Authority Chicken to Lamb and that smell has gone away. But she just smells like shes went and played in the rain or sweaty stinky. She loves the shower, but i dont let her get in and get wet or anything. I did give her a bath about an hour ago, because I turned on the shower for myself and she ran into the bathroom and jumped straight in so I just gave her a shower. She smells better now, I use I

I dont so much think my house stinks... mostly whiny husband saying his clothes smell like dog (and i know hes crazy! the clothes go straight from the dryer in the laundry room to the bedroom, both rooms dog is not allowed). My kitchen did smell a little like wet dog, but I hadnt mopped in a few days, but finally got around to it today and its back to clean. I'm a huge candle freak and recently got the little candle wax things you put in a warmer from yankee candle and have some from scentsy along with the candles I burn regularly, so whenever people come over they say my house smells nice and not at all like a dog lives here. but as for her, i guess does a dog just smell like a dog? LOL if that makes any sense..... I've seen doggy "cologne" but I'm not sure if its safe or not. Or would it be unsafe to get a bottle of water and put a few drops of perfume in it and spritz her every so often? I guess I am paranoid about this because of peoples homes who I have been to and they dont keep their dogs clean, or let the dogs do their business in the house and not worry about cleaning it up as soon as they see it.... (Literally helping a friend move out of his girlfriends moms house and her dog peed on some stuff and he yelled no and she went off and said the dog can pee or poop wherever it pleases! not to mention you had to dogde it just walking threw the house...)
@ Teal- what kind of vacuum do you have and where did you get your bags? I have a vacuum you have to get bags for and it be great to find those!! |

3 of 4 dogs here are not fans of the bath and only get bathed when they are dirty. About once every 2-3 months. They don't smell like wet dog unless they were out in the rain, so that kind of makes me wonder if there is any bacteria or fungus or something on your dogs skin. Other than that, could just be a sensitive nose
![]() BUT, I do not like when things around the house start to smell like dog. I bleach the basement family room floors, use vinegar and water on the upstairs floors (bird can't be around bleach fumes) and clean my furniture with a Little Green Clean Machine with pet odor remover cleaner and some vinegar in it. I also wash the crate blankets at least once a week. Oh, and I have to wash the bathroom rug every few days because the dogs lay on it so much. |

...you may also want to see if that smell is coming from the inside of her ears. ![]() |

well her ears dont have a smell, and under her arms look normal. Although the Authority dog food wasnt what I had intended on putting her on husband bought it, so no since in wasting it. She seems to be doing pretty well on it though, as compared to how she was when I got her and she was on Purina puppy chow. Eventually I will switch her food, but I dont want to be changing her food alot so Ill wait just a little longer before switching her again. I dont know what else would be causing it though. Its like i can smell her anywhere, and it smells like she hung out in the rain all day (without the rain!)

I don't think my dogs smell bad but they will make anything they lay on a lot smell horrible! I have tried so many different things to try to get rid of that smell. My last attempt at geting rid og the smell was to wash all their bedding with pinesol. That worked so much better than anything I have tried previously! All the smell was gone completely!

My personal experience is that the vast majority of dogs that smell like "dog" is because if what they are eating. Bathing more doesn't really help - espcially for a dog that tends towards dry skin.
My white dog gets bathed more - simply because she can look dirty. I do brush them before we stay at a hotel or friend's house but I honestly can't remember the last time I bathed my lurcher. Better food and adding both Fish Body Oil and Apple Cider Vinegar (Bragg's or another unfiltered brand) will help tremendously. |

Bear has stopped smelling like a dog to much since he started eating more raw than kibble, but even when on TOTW he had no real doggy smell and usually goes a month or so between baths, now that I have his yeast under control its so nice and fresh smelling.
He stunk to me today when I washed him, but when people pet him they dont say anything and my friends Mom is uber neat freak and she loves him and would have so told me if he smelled lol so I dont think he really smelled, he was just a little dirty. I know most dogs dont smell to bad, but their mouths oh God the dog breath can be so disgusting! Bear thank God doesnt have that at all, it smells like nothing due to raw meaty bones and the occasional tooth brush through the mouth. Might be that, but I am betting its the food, some people who feed the TOTW that I feed end up with nasty fish smelling or cat piss smelling dogs, Bear doesnt have that at all, so food can really make a dog stinky! |
