yea banfield is not very good at all, they have given a shot to my ex's dog without asking and charged us over 100$ for the shot even though they did not clear the treatment with us first. I have a nice country vet now that lets see I just went in for Logan's rabies and a 12 month supply of heartguard for Logan AND Goren, one med. box, one large and the total was only 148 even they don't do fecal unless it is needed like if you have been off the HWP or if you want to run it but last time I had it run it was pretty cheap I think 20 maybe. The thing that is pricey at my vet is surgery so I choose another good vet in the area for spay/neuter and they don't mind that I do that

I love my vet office - all the vets are great - and do a great job with everything they do. But it's $32 just to walk in. I wish they didn't charge that then I would have no hesitation going to them. It cost me $60 just to get Shelby's shots. I wanted to get a HW test done because she has been of HW preventative for a while but my bill would have been almost $100!

I called the Banfield at the Petsmart I work at and it would have been about $120 just to get her shots. They want $3 for a disposal fee!

fluoxet 08-01-2012 11:49 PM

Wtf is a disposal fee.....

Tjfyojlg 08-01-2012 11:58 PM

For the needles. It was ridiculous and I actually laughed when the lady told me that.

fluoxet 08-02-2012 12:00 AM

That's so stupid. I would have laughed too

I have a wellness plan through them that's $28/month. I pay nothing when I go there. I have only paid for X-rays and medications in the past 2 years. I'm not complaining. My vet is great regardless where she works. She used to work somewhere else. She wasn't always a Banfield vet.

Tjfyojlg 08-02-2012 12:23 AM

She may be a great vet but I don't want to pay for something I'm not using or need. If Shelby was an unhealthy dog that required a lot of vet visits then I might consider it but until then it's just not worth it for me.

lisualsethelp 08-02-2012 12:51 AM

I hear ya. It just works for me $ wise even if it's yearly. Now I have 2 dogs so it works. Especially as the dogs get older. My older pup has allergies.

sesIgnose 08-02-2012 01:40 AM

Do you have to pay 2 fees of $29 if you have two dogs?

I haven't added the second yet bc we just got the second and he's a puppy but I believe it's discounted.

klnbgqr 09-01-2012 07:56 AM

So what is included in that $28/month (or $336/yr) because if it is just shots and preventives, you are getting ripped off.

sesIgnose 09-01-2012 07:59 AM

Its any visit and certain tests

Banfield - Pet Health Care Plans for Adult Pets: Banfield, The Pet Hospital

tattcasetle 09-01-2012 12:55 PM

yea my vet costs me a total of 50$ a year after the dog is an adult...not costing preventatives but you can bring a dog in for weighing and the preventatives with no charge, a wellness check is like 30 so if I wanted to do that as well at 6 months its 110 a year so banfield in comparison to where I go now is a huge rip off

Kimaamighed 09-01-2012 04:18 PM

I didnt care for them too much, everytime i went to for a followup there was a different vet, and they had no clue what i am in for and or what is wrong with my dog.

We use the Banfield in our area and are really happy with them. We pay monthly so whenever we go in we never pay an office visit fee, all of the shots are covered, Bailey's spay and Gus's neuter were covered under the plan (I think we had to pay for the take home meds, but it was minimal) and anything else we need is heavily discounted. Also we've had teeth cleaned on Bailey, Trooper and Gus. (Charlie was "due" for one but the vet said his teeth looked good and there was no reason to put him under unnecessarily)

I would say between our four animals at least one of them is in the vet's office once a month-so for us; it's well worth the money. Typically it's Bailey, she has such bad allergies.

my vet charges $50 each time we just want to walk in. then I have to pay for why I came there...testing etc. The only thing I don't pay for is weighing lol Compared to my vet Banfield sounds sooo much cheaper lol

Like anything, there are some good ones and some bad.

The two privately owned vets that are close to me I don't like. One, the vet is really a b****. I just don't like her, she is such a pain that even her staff left, I don't even know if she is open anymore.

The other vet I was not impressed with. I felt their prices were high and the one vet was very rough with my male dog, who already does not trust most men anyway.

Now, I do go to Banfield. I was impressed with one of the vets there who was extremely gentle and took his time with my older male dog and my dog did well with him. He also seems to genuinely like the animals. Now the bad news is that he left our local Banfield because he was in high demand as an orthopedic surgeon so he will be specializing in that now. So we will see now.

I do have 2 dogs on the wellness plan. It helps with Ellie, cause she is always having to go to the vet for one dumb thing or another. Especially when foxtail season comes around. With her it has really paid off, I am never charged an office fee and I get 15% off all services plus free dental cleaning, vaccines, etc.

For my other dogs I get their vaccines at mobile vaccination clinics. It is just so much cheaper.

I have never had them administer any kind of treatment to any of my dogs without my consent and letting me know the exact cost and breakdown. I have never had them try and push any treatment on my dogs. If anything, they will write me a prescription to take elsewhere (like Target pharmacy) if it is going to be cheaper for me.

This has always been my experience as well, infact any time they want to do something they write it up and have me sign a form agreeing to the cost.

tattcasetle 09-01-2012 09:19 PM

see that is a lot for a walk in fee, I would still look around, there are 4 vet offices closer to me, I drive 35 miles to mine but its worth it. The banfield is 45 minutes away (when my ex worked at petsmart is when I had dogs using there services).

I would rather go with a higher price and a vet I trust than getting a deal any day though, I know of 1 other vet in my area that is good and its hmm 30 minutes away, I don't take my dogs to it because I trust mine and even though they have a office cat, if they know Goren is coming in it gets put up, they also get him into a room ASAP because of his reactivity (its a lot more so now that I am pregnant than before, I really think he thinks its his job to protect me from the fluffy other dog monsters)
