Nope, she said that her hormones might go out of whack and cause her to gain weight. She's the second person I heard that from. The first was a man who had a female pit bill and she was huge but not like, fat huge, but more like round and hard...it's hard to explain. He said it was because of her hormones after her spay. Really confused me. Lol. So I asked the vet when I saw her and she said its true, so idk. Haha.

When they spay a dog they're taking away the hormones basically, so she will not become moody. My dog was lean and underweight when I got her and she's spayed, it will not make a dog fat. Just keep her exercise up, and intake of food at maintenance level. Dogs get fat because people over feed and under exercise.

like ember said.
there are 2 spayed female dogs in my family. one i pretty much take care of she just turned 7 today and was spayed at 4 months old and she is in pretty good shape and she is far from fat. my grandparents have a spayed female that was done around 7-9 months i can't remember when but she is fed garbage and she gets yelled at when she runs because my grandparents have zero patiences and really are not the people for a dog and she is obese. it is up to you when you want to spay your dog no one can tell you what is best for your dog. however i do not beleive your vet is correct or the man you talked to it is how you feed the dog and how you exercise the dog as to how the dog will be physcially (and healthy) wether you spay or not. |

I can say with 100% certainty that spaying will not change the dogs body type. Slayer is just as lanky as she has always been and was spayed at 5 months.
Also, if it makes you feel any better there is nothing to be scared of. Just make sure you read all the papers they give you and keep her from getting over hyper for a week or so. |

Yeech! Who wants to read about that first thing in the morning. Next thing you know you'll post when your "boyfriend" gets his too!!
![]() The hormones will be gone and she very well can gain weight due to the spay but you'll have to excercise her to keep her thin. Also read the pros and cons sticky before making the final decision as spaying has some positive and detrimental effects on the bitch. |

I was also rather worried about Trigger getting nuetered, though it's less involved then the female surgery. Everyone was telling me also he was going to get fat and out of shape. It hasn't changed him one bit (not his personality either) , and I maintain his excercise and keep human food away from him.
Welcome to 4 weeks of hell......I have 2 in heat right now and I hate it..... ![]() ....but we appreciate it, CK, as we can look forward to some more gorgeous puppy pics! |
