Default New Puppy
We have a new puppy. We brought him home last night, Mac. My Lexi (both Pitbulls) is 6. I crated Mac when I left the house today for 2 hours. My sister in law that lives upstairs said my Lexi howled for almost an hour and a half that I was gone. But when she came down to check on them Lexi was happy and wanted to play and Mac was sleeping. Is this normal? My Lexi is spoiled and the baby until now. I don't want her to be upset. She is fine with Mac when I am home. They snuggle on the couch. Advice?

Sorry I'm not understanding what getting a puppy has to do with your adult dog's SA. Has she ever had this problem in the past? What sorts of (if any) behaviors or activities have changed or haven't happened since you got the new pup?

More information would be helpful. From what you've said it could be anything from her trying to just interact with the puppy, trying to interact with the puppy and being frustrated because she couldn't get to to him, or she's developing a new anxiety, although if she's fine with the puppy in your presence I doubt it's the latter

She has never done that before. Nothing has changed besides him being here and in a cage when no one is home. I cover the cage when I leave. It only happened that one time. She has been fine since. He cries now when I leave. I am thinking that maybe she just wasn't sure what was going on. It was the first time I left the house since he has been here. Now I give them bones when I leave and they are ok. She is very curious. She's been good with him. She will put him in his place if he gets to crazy or she doesn't want to share. I was just more concerned of her being unhappy. She has always been "sad" when I have left the house. Up until 2 years ago she had an older dog as company but he passed. So I am thinking she has had anxiety since he is gone. We got a pup so that she wouldn't be "lonely."

Sounds like she was just confused. What kind of bones are you leaving them? Milk Bones or Nylabones? You could try stuffing a Kong with a mixture of peanut butter, mashed banana and a handful of kibble, freeze overnight, and give it to the pup before you leave the house when you have put him in his crate. It won't last all day, but it will entertain him and get him to associate the crate with something yummy.

You can start by not humanizing your dogs and comparing them to peoples feelings...
