ChipIn for Cobia (the Pit Bull I saved recently)!

Little update on Cobia (see here if you're confused: I saved a dog today....)

My friend who originally had him has had him in her home for a couple weeks now. Unfortunately, her landlord has decided that he can't stay there anymore http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/frown.png So, we are scrambling to try to find a foster or adopter for him! Meanwhile, she was laid off from her job and has been unable to afford treatment for his Demodex. He has improved with some holistic remedies, but he does need veterinary care. So, a ChipIn has been created! Any little bit helps, and if you can't donate, pass it around to your friends http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png I can promise that it will be going to his treatment and care.

Picture of Cobia, you can see some of the spots where he's lost hair on his face:

Thanks! We luckily found a foster home for him, just in time! Now just to find a forever home for this sweet boy.

Poor guy, demodex sucks! What's he need for treatment, just ivermectin?

Definitely that, and he may need some antibiotics if he has any underlying skin infections going on (pretty common with Demodex since they scratch at themselves).

Diesel was able to get a prescription written to a regular pharmacy for one of their free antibiotics that's offered, wouldn't be a bad idea to check into that either. He had it horrible,it took like 3 months to get it cleared up. I had close to $200 into just ivermectin in the time he had it, good luck with the collection. he's a handsome boy and shouldn't have too much of a hard time finding a good forever home

Yeah we'll have to check into that. We have a great low cost clinic that we're going to get him into once we get a bit more money raised.

Thanks though, I hope it won't be hard to find him a great home. My friend thought she found that, but those were the people who just let him go and AC picked him up. Ugh.

Kady has he been skin scraped?

You can get Iveremctin at Jeffers for around $30 for 50mls. Same EXACT stuff that vets prescribe. Cephalexin is the most common antibiotic used for skin. And you can get that at the same place that I told you about the metronidazole. Which is the same stuff that vets prescribe.

Now you can ask for a script for the antibiotics as well.

Hell I keep stockpiles of Ceph at my house. LOL

Yup, he's been scraped! I saw that on Jeffer's.. his foster is going to go to one of our local feed stores tomorrow to try to find a bottle of it. I just need to get the dosage for it. I know Piper started on around .2ml once daily, then worked up to .4ml (hers was a low dose compared to some I've seen, but it worked! She wasn't as bad as Cobia though.) once daily for 45-50 days. She scraped negative after that. But, she was 30lbs. at the time. Cobia is around 60lbs.

I actually just checked, and I have Cephalexin here! 40, 500mg. capsules. Need to look up the dosage for that as well. I'm sure it couldn't hurt him, considering this is what he looks like currently.. UGH!

Apparently he's been chewing on his whole rear end. I feel so bad.

Thank you! Cobia did great on his first night home with his new foster http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png We'll be getting him an appointment set up today!

Good luck at the vet! So happy you found a foster - saw it on FB this morning http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png

Otis is on Ceph right now. He's 70# and getting 1,000mg twice a day (so four of your pills daily). You are going to be using a lot of that stuff, probably your whole stash! We also just got a script for the Ceph and had it filled elsewhere b/c it was cheaper that way.

Yeah I actually have it for myself LOL. Dr. gave it to me when my tear duct was inflamed, but I never ended up taking it. So no big deal if we use it all!

He's around 60lbs. We got him into the low cost clinic on January 5th. Ivermectin has been ordered though, so we'll start him on that before the vet visit. I gave his foster my Nu Stock this morning as well, so hopefully he'll start feeling better soon!
