Thats the whole point, be prepared because it can happen to anyone. When this happened, I lived in one of the biggest 4H communities in MI, nice small town, big on animal husbandry. Didn't matter.

This is one of the reasons dog owners need to have all their ducks in a row and know their local and state laws. Having an attorney in your contacts list doesn't hurt, either. Just in case.

Yes.

My dogs have scars, some from fights some from just being dogs. I do not fight them, but having a bunch of dog with fosters coming and going, we've had a few fights/squabbles. Casper has been 4 bad fights in almost 8 years with 4 different dogs- brothers catch dog a bulldog/hound, a stray pit bull that dug into my yard, a foster Dogo who escaped his crate and a psycho Dobe who I was fostering that just attacked Casper while he was sleeping, but probably regretted it when Casper woke up! He has scars. He also has scars from having over 40 skin growths removed plus scars from running in the woods/palmettos.

My Greyhounds are always too skinny. Halloween we were at a downtown event and a lady comes up and thanks me for rescuing the poor abused Greyhound and says that I must have just gotten him b/c he was so skinny. I informed her, I did not rescue, I adopted him and no I didn't just get him, I had him since he was 7 weeks old and he was 5 months old and I personally thought he was a little fat, but since he was a puppy I wasn't too worried about it. She walked off!

I did get AC called one time when I had a foster Dobe that was emaciated when I got him. He had gained almost 20lbs and AC thought he looked fantastic since he had come from them in the first place!

Thankfully AC knows my dogs and we go to there Christmas party every year and have for the past 10 yrs. They always say my dogs are the best behaved dogs in the entire county! And where I live know, my neighbors on both sides absolutely adore the dogs. That is why I dread every having to move!

Yes, I had the police come out a few times at my former dwelling. They received anonymous calls that I was dog fighting. Another time, someone called the police and said I was hanging my dog from a tree, when he was really hanging from a tire and playing.

Yeah, One of my pet peeves is when people automatically assume Scars = Dog Fighting. It's so Freaking annoying.

It's good to be friends with AC, that's for sure xD I sure wouldn't want to be enemies with them. Most of my neighbors don't like my Dog, I don't really know why. The ones that know her well really love her though.

one time.

one of our neighbors is...well I cant think of a bad enough word for her so I'll just say I cant stand her.

one of my dogs got out and she called the cops on us saying that we have vicious fighting pit bulls

what we had then was a dane, a mastiff/lab, a boxer/airedale and an APBT/bloodhound mix.

when the cops got here they laughed their asses off at her and said not to worry about it

It both amazes and annoys me what dog breeds (Or mixes) People will mistake as "Pit Bulls"

I dont know how it is every where but where i am at its not bad at all ..People mind thier own and try to settle disputes without the law being involved.Never any incidents in the news papers nothing.I dont tell people i got APBT's only a handfull of close friends ,and only a handfull of close friends come to my house. Not because I am doing anything illegal,I follow the laws. Its just the less people that know ,the less bullshit you got to deal with.People will always stereo type and assume.

Not trying to offend any of the northern population but I lived in Michigan for a few years and I only had 2 jack russells at that time..Had them in a pin totally secured from the wind, chainlink, home made heavy duty dog house that i built with insulation, auto feeders and water, and a neighbor called on me because my dogs barked too much they said.AC was called,my landlord told me about it they never even bothered me because they said they couldnt find anything wrong lol..But what pissed me off is all the neighbor had to do was knock on my door and say your dogs bark too much...And dont think they were scared of me because we never saw each other bfore lol.But up north thats what the people did, that I saw they called the cops right away, got fuckin 911 on speed dial. They was some cop callin fuckers up there .No offence to the northern people,I got alot of great friends up there and we still keep in touch..Some good people up there for sure!

I've never been accused of fighting my dog...

but one time when Veronica started developing fear issues she was acting all freaky and shying away from my side in Rally class (we were outside and the sun/shadows were freaking her out). So my trainer, who has known me for years...actually asked me if someone were "hitting her".

Which was extremely insulting, given the fact that she knows me, and knows that I try to do primarily positive training and only use mild corrections when absolutely necessary...so for her to actually ask me in all seriousness whether or not someone was hitting my dog...made me want to hit her.

I've certainly been told Soleil's too skinny more times than I could count. There was a time that I now think that was true, but for the most part, she was just lean and conditioned. She's a little heavier now than when I was competing in weight pull, but now I'm competing in agility, and extra weight would be bad with all the jumping she does. Mainly I get compliments on her. I think it's abusive to have fat dogs.
Surprisingly, since I do all my drag weight training in a public park, which is occasionally crowded, I have never been accused of anything. Of course I'm a middle aged woman, and I'm carrying treats and praising and encouraging the dog while it works, so we just don't look that scary.

I make a point of having my dogs come with me when I renew their licenses, they've met the warden, and most of the town clerks.

People assume that because I am not all "Dog fightin' is bad and horrible and it should be stopped EVERYWHERE!" that I somehow fight my dog.

Because you know, the gamest ones are those blue nosed pits!! lol

I dont know how many times I have been accused of it, when its more than obvious my dog hasnt even been into it with anything. But I guess believing people should have a right to do as they wish with their property makes me a dog fighter. *shrugs*

Also people seem to assume that using a prong collar is going to make your dog mean? or that your trying to "toughen" him up? I have had people stop and stare, or tell me "Your going to make him meaner than he already is with that thing!!" Oh really? I thought I was just teaching him to walk properly..?

I went to buy a prong at petco for my friends dog and when we walked up to the counter with the prong on she looked shocked. she even said to Lady (the frickin dog)
"what are they doing to you? I'm so sorry baby" kneeling down with her face in front of the dogs
like she was expecting her to talk back

Peanut has 2 scars 1 is on his cheek that he ran into a pillar of my stucco house and one on his forearm that is about 2 inches long that he cut himself coming out of the pool. luckily no one has said anything about them they would feel pretty stupid if they found out the silly incidents that made them pop up they both came from him not watching where he was going.

My husband called me one day at work and asked me where the vet records and dog licenses were. I told him and asked why. He said the sheriffs were here and we were accused of abusing our dogs. He said him and Beastley were outside. He was raking the leaves while Beastley was yowling while swinging on his spring pole. The neighbors hollered, "Stop beating the dog." My husband said mind your own business. They couldn't see Beastley or him because they were on the side of the shed where the spring pole is attached. He said he looked up and two sheriff cars were there and they were walking up to the fence. He asked what the problem was. They said they got a call about a dog being abused. They said they wanted to see the dog. My husband said look and pointed to Beastley swinging on the spring pole. They asked him if they could get a closer look at him and he called Beastley to the fence. They asked if we had another dog and he said yes and asked to see him. My husband told them to hold on because he had to put Beastley up because our other dog had DA. He brought out my Mastiff for them to look at. They then asked proof of vet records and licenses. The sheriffs laughed and said we had very well mannered dogs. They warned us that we should be prepared to get other calls with Beastley yowling as he does while playing but they will put it on record what he does so if they get another call it will be on record that the dog yowls while playing.
