If the dog HAS papers, you should've been given them when you got the dog. Otherwise, you're pretty much SOL. Where did you get him from?

i got him from a friend for free. he did give me this certificate that has the dogs info such as name, D.O.B., Adba etc etc, he told me to read the back and mail it but I never did. It's almost two years now, Is it too late to turn it in? or Is that how you get the ped?

Nope, it's not too late to turn it in, you will just have to pay a late fee. According to which options you choose, you will get back your dogs pedigree going back so many years.

with adba, you never know. whats the parents names? they may be on feds online, and that would save you the 40 bucks.

Why don't you register your dog and GET a pedigree for yourself--that way you always have it to look at and pour over again and again. That's part of the fun of pedigrees! You don't have to show or breed your dog to learn something from pedigrees.

why pay money when you can have it online for free. no point in spending that kind of money on a pet.

...sounded like she was interested in the kinds of services you can get from a registry....
I guess I was different -- all we had when I was a kid and teenager was PETS. They WERE registered though, and I learned a lot pouring over pedigrees. Names led me to books, to names of breeders IN those books, to their HOMES to see their dogs....to an interest in doing more..to understanding what you could do through the registries and what you couldn't do...eh, so much for research and being interested in a breed.

Never mind about being interested and following where a pedigree may lead....I hear registries just want your money anyway. Yeah, forget about it...

Usually an interest will lead you to spend a little money....good grief..

When someone wants to know what "bloodline" a dog is, I take it they are interested in purebred dogs. The game of purebred dogs involves record-keeping through a registry. It involves, firstly, registering the dog to take advantage of those records AND learning what the registry is all about!
The OP has the info needed to register the dog and for someone that's interested in bloodlines, I guess I'm baffled why you WOULDN'T!
Does "pedigrees on line" even list the birthdate of the animal involved? Or registration numbers?

I think you will find more information on the pedigrees of the registries like AKC, UKC and ADBA..

if the ped is online, why do you need to pay money to find out the bloodlines? and pay even more money for an even longer pedigree, when if most or all is listed online, you can trace just about ALL of it online?

registering a dog doesnt suddenly make them purebred, therefore again, no need to pay money. im not sure what there is to take advantage of if you arent showing the dog?

Why DOESN'T peds on line list birthdates? Kinda strange and makes it difficult to place the dogs in history..weird....

registering a dog doesnt suddenly make them purebred
?

But she said she had the papers, just hadn't sent them in...now, I don't know if they are the papers needed for registration, but if they ARE and were acquired legitimately and met the registry's requirements, the dog would be considered purebred, right?

Or is it that all papers are hung and there really ARE no "purebred" dogs?*

wtf are you ranting about again? have you even looked through feds online? lol. this thread is like talking to a brick wall, go ahead, you somehow win, even though none of what you post makes any sense, other than you want them to pay money for no reason if they can know the whole ped through the breeder or online. congrats! have fun with that thought process.

The whole point of getting a dog with a pedigree is to have that pedigree on hand to prove the bloodline...at least that's why I wanted registered dogs. And if no one paid to register their dogs and to get their pedigrees, there would not be ANY peds available online...

Yes you can look SOME of it up online. But, like my dogs, there isn't much you can find without the actual pedigree on hand.

It's not a waste of money.
