Ok, thx everyone. I took her this morning to be spayed. I am waiting on the call to come back to pick her up..

I hope all went well and she'll feel better by tomorrow. With all of my spay/neuter's the dogs felt like crap and slept the first night and then were their normal selves by the next day. Remember, keep her from running, jumping, tugging and playing hard for about a week to 10 days. Keep an eye on her incision site. I checked mine daily and used antibacterial ointment from the drug store just as a precaution. If you notice her bothering it too much be prepared to use an e-collar.

Everything went good today. She is home and sleeping right now. Yea they told me not to let her run or jump up on things. They said all the stitches were on the inside but I'm gonna just keep a eye on her stomach area. On the car ride home she was her normal self I couldn't keep her still. Now she laying on the floor sleeping like a baby.

I hope she heals well and no complications, glad to hear the surgery went fine! thanks Emberbull. Yea it is already a hard to keep her from wanting to run out the front door while im trying to have her walk out the door calmly but all she wants to do is run. I was looking for a dog that had already been spayed but when I came across Piper story I couldn't pass her up.

Your leash is your friend! Once Rita recovered from being knocked out she was trying very hard to be all go and no quit. I had to keep her separate from my other dogs or she would try to wrestle. I had to keep her leashed to me or crated to prevent her from running and jumping all over everything and I had to keep her on leash outside or she would try to hunt vermin, run around and generally be a nut. It was one of the longest weeks of my life! I was thrilled when she could go back to her regular play and exercise routine.

I have her on a leash when I take her outside but she loves running and playing with my other dogs outside. I'm not just letting her out with out a leash on. I even have her leashed in my bed room so she wont jump on the bed.

This is gonna be along week in a half now. Every time i take her out she wants to run and my other dogs aren't making it any better because they want her to play and she can't. another thing is when I have her tied in my room so she can't jump on my bed when I am sleeping but she will keep trying to do it and if she can't she will cry and bark to wake me up if i try to ignore her she will only get louder to where she will wake my sister or my parents and they will come knock on my door. I don't have any other idea of how i can keep her off the bed when I am asleep at night.

she'll be fine a few days/weeks might be rough but then its back to normal - if she's hyper then thats just her - when bailey was spayed nothing changed in her personality which I'm glad of

Yea I know. She is very hyper I love her personality she is so goofy. how long after she is spayed can I take her a little walk? I mean beside taking her out to use the bathroom.

How would she behave?
 

I took Piper to the vet today because I noticed about 3 days ago that around her vagina was red. Well last night I notice her licking it more and chewing at it more so when I looked I saw that it was really raw and more dark than the other day. So I called my vet today and she told me to bring her in because it could be a number of different reason why it is like this. Well she told me that it was just irritated and that Piper is going to be coming back into heat soon.

Next Tuesday I am taking her to be spayed and the only reason I haven't had it done any time sooner is because of money issues.

She is very hyper, I am just wondering if she will calm down some what after she is spayed? Also I'm wondering if something could go wrong while she is being spayed? http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/nervous.gif Just give me ideas of how she will act after being spayed.

A dogs personality will not change with a spay or neuter. Males will mellow out a touch, but only in that "where are the bitches?!" way. They will not get less hyper. The breed it's self can be very active http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png
A spay is a medical operation. I have done rescue for YEARS and have spayed over 75 dogs of all ages with never any problems. But like any surgery, in humans or dogs, things could go wrong. That's just the "real life" facts of stuff...

Spaying certainly didn't calm my Piper down LOL. She's my little fire cracker!

It's a surgery, so there are risks, but they're pretty minor. It's the after care with the hyper dogs that's a pain, so be prepared for that. Piper's incision got slightly infected because I just couldn't keep her calm enough. Nothing that a round of antibiotics didn't take care of though.
