I live in Gainesville, Fl. and Yea I'm actually looking currently but I don't want to pick the wrong class or anything like that. Lol and THANKS Kady I would greatly appreciate it.

Megan what type of show dog do you have, if you don't mind me asking? Also, what registry do you show him in?
Well here's one: American Kennel Club - Greater Gainesville Dog Fanciers Association - GAINESVILLE - FL - 321 for whatever reason, nothing is clickable on their website, but you could use the email on the AKC site to contact them!

You can use this: American Kennel Club - Club Search and Directory to search. Search under Conformation Clubs, or Obedience Clubs. When you contact people, tell them you're interested in showing in conformation with your dog. Doesn't matter that they're AKC clubs, many people show UKC as well.

I have a 6 month old APBT that i show in UKC!

And Kady, my first stacking attempt pictures are horrendous i can barely look at them LOL! they make the lil man look soooo so bad haha!

This is my man a lil over a month ago, I had my hubby taking the pictures! I had a bit of an awkward period myself because he was so short so I was bending on my knees next to him to stack him as you can see in the picture, and I am just finally able to stack him while I'm standing and it look halfway decent AND him stay still lol. it's all a process!

this is him from the front about 2 weeks ago

Megan's dog is a blue fawn, a gorgeous one at that.. but I already told her that LOL.

Welcome

I got my show lead from a lady that's local to me who makes them.. you can see it here:

The chain I ordered online.. they're often referred to as "snake chains". Very thin (but they CAN withstand some pulling), so if he's a big puller, start with a nylon choke. Just Google show dog leads and a bunch of sites will come up.

So it would be better to start off with a nylon choke and work towards a snake chain? and I emailed the Local AKC and already getting feed back. It's funny they suggested I try to work and enter the show in January. I wouldn't mind but my dog isn't AKC registered. Lol

Yeah you could do that, depends on your pup though. Sako HATED the chain at first.. went completely into "flat dog" mode when I put it on. So I used a martingale style show lead for awhile, they look like this: Mendota - Martingale Show Leads

That's great you're already getting feedback! Here's the UKC site, you can search for upcoming shows there. Just select Conformation and it'll list them by state. Once there you can search through the next few months to see if there are any coming up.

I love this thread! So much great information about UKC showing. Kady your videos are fabulous and your Sako is quite a looker. Megan who did you get your boy from?

Legion welcome to the show world I currently have two UKC champions and a 5 month old who's training for the show ring right now. He's super wiggly now but I'll try to take some pictures/video of us practicing so you can get more help.

Also I got my collars from Amazon. I think they were the hexagon show collars...can't remember. But amazon has them for good prices. My first lead I also got from Amazon but my current leather lead I had made for me by Brad Rossignol.

You're so right. I'm always video taping conformation, obedience, agility, or whatever and critiquing myself later lol.

Legion I made a video for you today that I hope will help get you started in Conformation. My dogs were glad for the opportunity to earn some treats

My lil man came officially from Moore Kennels in Alabama, Cedric Moore to be specific. However a friend of mine, Chris Bennett (or Bully the Kid and people call him lol) owns the sire and he got 2 picks out of the litter and when he got Ozai to his house he contacted me about getting him so he actually came from Chris. I co-own him with Chris and I deal with Chris I don't deal with Ced much. lol

and i love the video! i will have to get some video of ozai practicing! i have video of ozai's first show, he won best in show puppy! the video quality is bad, but its still something lmao! and yes, we have worked on him looking at me while gaiting, he rarely does it now.. very frustrating for a little while but i got it under control lol!

LOL thanks kamikaze!

Megan I'm super impressed with the way your little puppy was behaving in the ring! What was he like 3 months old? He behaved better than my three year old!

Oh thanks haha! He was about 4 1/2 months old there, both of us first time out there Thanks we practice a lot but i was pretty nervous about how he was going to act! we had a couple moments where he tried to start running lol, but i think thats pretty typical for puppies many of them didnt really gait at all cuz they were so excited. i was very proud of him i was esp proud of him cuz i was told that the first time out his daddy pulled a judge's shirt down in excitement and also did a backflip lmao!

Default Process to get ready for shows
Hello I've been posting in the forum for a year or so now and I want to start getting my boy Kojack ready into shows. (I know it's late or whatever) He's 8 months now, and I just gotten use to my work schedule to get time to devote to preparing for shows. What is the process of getting a pit ready for a show?? What all does it take? It might be broad, but I really don't even know what to really ask about. Stupid I know...
