Default First Potential APBT!
Hi y'all, I know that I've not posted on here in a looong time. I originally joined the forum to research the breed as I was planning on having my own waaay in the future, but anyway, the "future" has come sooner than expected.

I was browsing Petfinder looking at all the cute Pit Bulls and then BAM! I found a dog that I absolutely knew I had to meet.

So meet him I did!

His name is Brennan. He is a little over a year old. His current owner found him in her front yard eating mulch when he was around 6-7 months old. He was nothing but skin and bones so she took him in and nursed him back to health. Now he is a beautiful, healthy 55 pound boy!

So on Saturday I took my Pomeranian and my mom and I went off to meet him at a local pet store. My dog is strange when it comes to meeting new dogs. I've recently learned she doesn't like conflict, and when most dogs are all happy and excited to see her, she's like OH MY GOD, YOU ARE IN MY BUBBLE. BACK OFF. Anyway, she did pretty well seeing as Brennan is a really exuberant Pit Bull and he was all excited about being at the pet store, etc. etc.

So, next weekend we are taking him for a "trial run!" He is coming to stay at our house for the weekend to see if my dog and our 2 cats can hopefully adjust to him. I've been researching the breed like crazy since finding out that I was meeting him and potentially adopting him, so I hope I'm ready. He's already crate trained, housebroken, and neutered, and he currently lives with another dog and a cat, so I'm really, really hoping everything goes well.

I just needed someone to share my excitement with as I haven't told any of my other online friends about him yet.

Oh, and of course, I have pictures (even though they're a tad bit outdated, you'll get the general idea).

This is Brennan when they first found him. I still don't understand how people can do this and throw a dog out on the street with no heart or remorse for it.

And here he is over the summer. You can tell a HUGE difference and tell how much healthier and happier he appears. Since this picture though, I think he might have grown some more LOL. Either that, or you just can't tell how big he is in the picture. Maybe the latter half of that.

Wish me luck this weekend, I really want things to work out. I know I won't be able to tell for 100% sure if my pets are going to adore him, but I will hopefully be able to get a general idea if things are going to work out. And, of course, I'm sure I'll be posting a lot more with plenty of questions as this is my first true APBT.

He's a pretty dog! The 2nd picture is at an odd angle, his head doesn't look like it's part of his body! lol.

That is one handsome dog! I hope it goes well for you. Be sure to post questions and even be prepared to shoot and post video if you have any concerns over how the group is interacting. We struggled early on with our two existing dogs and their interaction with the pit we brought in off the street a few months ago, but with a few tips and a lot of support, we got through it in time. You already have a leg up since he's coming from a foster already and have had time to think it all through in advance.

I'm already learning tons. I never would have thought about a lot of things if I hadn't started reading on this forum! I'm definitely going to be posting questions, especially if there are issues with my cats and dog. I hope it goes well, too. Thanks!

And thanks, SBTlove! I think he's gorgeous, but I'm a little biased .

He'll be here tomorrow at 3. I think I might just explode before 3 gets here

I'm so worried about introducing him to my other pets, but maybe it won't be as bad as I think it's going to be.

What other pets do you have? When I introduce a new dog I do not force meetings. It's more like the new dog is in a crate in the corner where the others can see it but not get right up on it. After a couple of hours I take them for a on leash walk. Each dog in controlled by a different person and I keep the dogs away from each other, just a nice friendly walk.

Good luck!

I've been reading tons of articles/watching videos on how to introduce a new dog into the family, but some of it just doesn't seem like it will go over well with my three, haha.

I have a Pomeranian and 2 cats.

I agree with MsAcer - Don't just throw him in everyone's face, and everyone in his face. Moving can be tough on a dog, and if you stress him out straight off it could go badly. If I bring an adult dog into the house, they don't actually interact with my dogs face to face for a week or two... they are crated and rotated, so they sort of just blend in and become the norm.

Yeah, I figured that. I'm probably going to let him have free roam of the house and lock up the cats in my bathroom or bedroom for a little while and keep my dog out of the way (she usually lays on the couch anyway) and then crate him, let the cats out, let them get used to his presence and then decide what to do from there.

It's going to be kind of hard to judge things from just a weekend with him, but I guess I'll probably know by Sunday if he's going to be a fit or not.
