Default Free Am Staff - Come'n Get'er!
Begin Rant -

Jolene is about to find herself tied out front with a "FREE!" sign around her damned trouble making neck!

A few weeks ago, she ran her pads off while road working... so, obviously, we haven't been able to road work. Which means that Jolene gets NO exercise - she won't swim in the pool because it's too cold, she doesn't play fetch or play with the other dogs, etc.... the ONLY thing this dog will do is run, and if she can't run she drives me fucking INSANE!

It's like having a 40 pound, 8 week old puppy. She gets into EVERYTHING, she pisses everyone off because she's always underfoot, etc.

Today, she did the ULTIMATE suicide attempt!

Because she is in season, she is in a separately fenced area on a chain. This morning, I noticed the clip on her chain needs to be replaced. So I thought, "Ahh, what the hell... I'll let her hang out in the fenced in area for now, since I'll be running to town pretty soon and can get a new clip then"

When Bukra left my sight in the main yard, I got this funny inkling that I should go see what he was up to... I'm paranoid with a bitch in season around! Though I figured he probably just went inside to lay down (I leave the front door open when it's nice out)

And what do I find, when I reach my open front door?

CARNAGE.

Jolene had tipped the garbage and SHREDDED everything that was in it. She knocked a ceramic bowl off the dog food desk, shattering it. She tore some of the stuffing out of the futon mattress that serves as a dog bed. I went to her fenced in area, and she had chewed her way through the wooden gate

I'm tempted to break laws, and go roadwork her on the damn high school football field!!

I'm really starting to get annoyed at this dog's complete lack of drive for anything but running/lure coursing. When I have her out with the other dogs in the yard... she sun bathes the entire time. If I'm lucky, she'll fetch the ball ONCE... and that isn't every time she's out. I've only met one other dog with this much energy with no outlets, and I was SOOO glad he was a foster and got adopted! lol

Holy crap! She sounds like a monster. Do you have somewhere safe and grassy to turn her loose for some exercise?

She sounds a bit like my special friend. He does like fetch, but mostly INSIDE the house, outside he gets too distracted, and really he is a hyper pain most of the time he's awake. The only thing that wears him all the way out is playing with another dog, but his play style is not exactly polite, so finding friends who don't want to bite him (if they do he doesn't even notice, let alone retaliate, but he doesn't take the hint either) or run away can be tricky. i am so grateful to the few extra patientand or equally nuts dog friends he has

Oh dear...

No interest in the flirt pole either?

Since Jolene seems to like...err...tearing things up...how about dissections?

http://codeazur.com.br/pix/blogs/CultureClash.pdf
Some dogs love doing dissections, i.e., tearing things apart rather than simplygnawing on them. Others hang onto the same stuffed animals for years. For thedissecting types, it can become expensive to keep the dog supplied so it’s worthdeveloping collections of used old socks and clean rags that can be nestedinside each other. If you want him to find treasure, nest a cookie or piece ofliver in the very center. If he’s a really industrial dissector, tie many knots astightly as you can to make it tougher. Present it to the dog and behold a predatorin action. Witness the first few dissections to be sure your dog doesn’t ingestthe non-edible parts, as the occasional dog might. If he’s an ingester, he can’tdo dissections.

My Amstaff doesn't like to do anything but go run in the woods. That is about the only thing she will do. She plays a little with Jack, but that is about it. She runs and she barks! She will not fetch, play with a flirt pole, nothing. And if she has a toy in her mouth and I touch it, she automatically drops it, won't play tug for anything in the world. But thankfully she is one lazy fat ass and if I don't take her to the woods, she is content to sleep all day! She also doesn't do road work as she can't walk on a leash. The dog is retarded and turns into a complete idiot when you attach a leash. She refuses to walk or walks behind you and if you pull her, she shuts down and won't budge.

So be grateful for what you have!

Renee - we have acreage and a HUGE yard... it doesn't matter WHERE she is, she won't run about, even with other dogs!

She absolutely won't play with other dogs, tug, fetch, etc. anything!!

Jazzy - Nope, no interest in the flirt pole! Friggin dog is IMPOSSIBLE lol but, I think she would LOVE dissections! I wouldn't put it past her to ingest SOME of it... though probably not enough to hurt her, if I hide a treat inside an old sock or something, I think she'd just tear through the sock to get to the treat. She won't even chew on things in the crate - I tried the Galileo bone with her, and she ignored it. A foster dog ate my last Kong and I haven't been able to afford another one, so I haven't been able to try a Kong with her.

Tiffany - I'll trade you ANY day! I'd rather have a dog with no energy who doesn't do anything, than a dog with a ton of energy that doesn't do anything lol. But, you wouldn't be able to take her out running with your pack like you do, because she takes off hunting.

Some day when I have money again, I'm getting another treadmill and sticking her dumb butt on it for the rest of eternity! LOL

We don't have Goodwills All of my loose change goes to dog sports and dog food - being unemployed truly sucks when you're addicted to dog sports! LOL I'm thinking about asking for a used one for my birthday or something (coming up next month). I still curse my ex-girlfriend for leaving my perfectly good, $200 treadmill in the rain with the cover off the motor! Grr

Lily + asphalt/sidewalks = ripped up/torn/burned/destroyed feet. When we bike, I have to tape her toes so they don't rub, then wrap her dew claw, then wrap her foot in vet wrap, then put boots on her front feet. And her back feet get musher's secret. So, we don't bike as often as I'd like (it takes at least 20 minutes just to get out the door).

But yesterday, I took her to the baseball field where we do our long-line obedience training, put her on her long line, took a big long tug, and played 'lure coursing' with her, aka- me putting her in a stay, walking past the end of her line, telling her to get her tug, then running away as fast as possible. At one point I'd thought I'd out run her; I looked back in front of me and she was coming AT me from the front ready to grab her tug . Just an idea .

Also, I got a manual treadmill for free on craigslist. Check it out.

I used to have booties, so I'd tape up her feet and bootie them... but it's still too hot and I don't want her overheating (since covering their feet is like keeping them from panting).

I can drag a toy infront of her, or run from her with a toy, and she doesn't care at all! Even if she cared, I can't run a whole lot (multitude of health problems preventing it, not to mention being pregnant lol). When I say this dog ONLY runs/lure courses - I truly mean it lol. And she is just starting to seem like she's enjoying roadwork - she didn't "get it" before. Of course, once she "got it" she tore up her feet and now has to wait before she can really do it again *rolls eyes*

She wouldn't run on a manual treadmill.. it would have to be electric. I've kept an eye out for one locally, but basically the closest CL is an hour away and I don't have the fuel to head that direction. Though - I should check out the area where I leave my truck for hunt weekends, maybe I can pick up something there!

I'm used to dogs that will at least play fetch - this is driving me insane!!

Oh, it was pretty hilarious at first...

But now, I just want to strangle the damn dog LOL I took her running yesterday even though her pads aren't completely healed, I couldn't stand it anymore. But, because I could only run her for 15 minutes before I ran out of fuel - it didn't phase her at all.

I have NO IDEA what to do with a dog with so much energy and no damn drive. She's a challenge, for sure! lol
