Having seven dogs here... NO! They get in shit every time they bark PERIOD! http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif Nobody that knows me knocks on my door anyway. Pisses me right off. Call before you come, call when you are here and I'll let you in. Otherwise you are hooped.

lol! This reminds me of when we were staying in a hotel room with 5 dogs and ordered delivery pizza. I asked the delivery driver to call from outside, and DO NOT KNOCK. They thought that was pretty entertaining lol

The ONLY one that knocks, is my landlord oddly enough. It's his house and he loves the dogs so he gets special treatment. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif

Plus, we have upstairs neighbors although their one little dog makes a hell of a lot more noise than my seven do all together! http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif

Here, it's not the knocking that gets to the dogs. It's the doorbell! For the first 18 months of Lily's life, she had never experienced a doorbell. It blows her mind EVERY TIME. She's like "da fuck?" while the rest of the dogs are barking up a storm.
My dogs know our cars, so Liberty doesn't even bark as a walk in the door. She knows it's me, no need to bark. Lily will get off the couch (if she's out) and say hi to me once I've entered. Liberty also knows my mom's car and the gf's car. If it's any of us, she'll let you in without a peep.
Now, Liberty also knows when a car is NOT ours, or when it's not us that walk up to the door. And she'll let you know you're not welcome. But she'll stop when I tell her to. I'm a big fan of letting her be big and scary for at least 10 seconds (they don't even know the pit bull's in there http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif).

Ditto with my pup, she recognises the tread of friends & their cars so just ends up looking at me, if I don't move the next indicator is her tail whumping away. Strangers get the full woof but from the front they can't see her tail wagging. If we were burgled I think the biggest risk to the intruder would be tripping over her.

It's like the old adage, all fur coat but no knickers. Things are not what they may seem.

I wish I had this adage in my country http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/frown.png. Thank you for bringing it here! I'll make sure to employ it in the most random of situations. "Well Robert, it seems that the fourth quarter sales revenues are less than we expected." "Well, you know Tom, it's like the old adage, all fur coat but no knickers." Robert: ".........."
Sorry, too much finance tonight. Time to get off the internet http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif.

Super lolz, more accurately, appearances are not what they may seem.

LMAO! That gave me a good laugh, thank you!

My dogs have never lived anywhere with a doorbell. Most of the time, they've also lived somewhere that has a fence entirely around it with people having to wait at a gate to be let in and park. My dogs are also used to the sound of the vehicles that live here, and my best friend's vehicle. Even though there are other people that come by often enough, they still react to their vehicles. I don't think Jolene or Bukra has ever heard knocking, now that I think about it... lol
