This is April, Tyson's mom, I had inquired about a username change but I think Vicki accidentally deleted my account :P
Anyways, a close friend of mine has a 6 month old GSD, I know there are some GSD owners/breeders on here, and although Parvo is common, someone still may be able to help me. The dog was completely fine until 4 days ago, he stopped wanting to play, he stopped eating, looked depress, and started vomiting up stomach acid. Two days later they took him to the vet, they did a parvo test and it came up positive. That day, they gave him a shot which was 2 weeks of antibiotics and they gave him a nausea shot and an iv, and yesterday they gave him another iv and a nausea shot, today he goes back for the same thing. He is still not eating, but he is now drinking water. I know alot of people on the forums have had pups with parvo and the outcome was not very good, but how likely is it that he will pull through being 6 months old? His dog is his baby and I feel really bad for him and hope he gets better soon. Can anyone offer any advice? Thanks ♥ |

I had a friend with a lab mix who got parvo about the same age, she did everything the vet said and kept him sequestered in a back room and he was very sick, and lost some weight but he eventually pulled though.
I say he would have a good a chance as any. I hope he pulls though, from all the older dogs getting parvo I have heard of most pull through, all the younger pups usually die. Just my experience.. |

THe only thing I know of along with what the vet is doing for the dog is to get some electrolites into the dog. Gatorade works great for the dog to drink along with water.
The dog should be quarantined. Kept away from the other dog. The vet should be able to help with what to scrub down the place with but rest assured it is in the grass in the yard etc. I hop along with everyone else that the other dog is up to date on his shots including the Parvo Vacine. Please let us know the outcome on this. |

Many vets will let you treat at home to save money. It is not alway successful, but neither is leaving them at the vet. I lost 7 out 10 Doberman puppies to parvo one time. They were perfectly fine on Friday. Saturday they were not as active, but it over 100 degrees outside and the AC was working hard to keep the inside bearable so didn't think much of it. Work up very early Sunday to a god awful smell and 2 dead puppies. Rest went the vet, kept the weaker ones and sent us home with IV's for the rest. The ones left at the vet died, we saved 3 at home.
Then my other dealing was with my pit bull puppy Baby. We had her put down. She started getting worse and was suffering. Whether the dog makes it or not, BLEACH everything. I mean everything. And do not bring another puppy near the property for at least a year, especially if they haven't had all their vaccines. Don't forget the car too! If it can't be be bleached, there are some products you can buy to spray it down with, but bleach works the best. |

Out of 3 parvo pups I have had, only one survived the parvo.
Bleaching is a MUST.Bleach your walls, floors, all the hard surfaces in your home, your car,EVERYTHING.Bleaching a grass yard probably will remove the parvo-but it will kill the grass. If it's a deck, patio or gravel....do it. as for 2ndary products.I think ken-L lan will kill parvo too. |

A parvo pup really should stay at the vet on fluids for constant care. Tamiflu also works wonder. Even at this age, parvo is still deadly, a member on my dane forum just lost two six month old litter mates. A dane breeder had a litter bring parvo home from the vet following ear crops, and lost her two year old champion male along with pups. Definitely make sure everything is done to not spread the virus.

They let him go home with parvo? Any dog with parvo I know has been kept at the vet - it's incredibly contagious! You also have to get the mix of bleach/water correct otherwise it wont do shit. |

one more thing to remember is that the other dog NEEDS TO BE KEPT SEPARATE. Even if the other dog has the parvo vaccine, he can still catch the disease if he comes into direct contact with the puppy or feces. A friend of mine has a 3 year old dog who was diagnosed with parvo this afternoon, and she's completely UTD on shots. They have no idea where the dog caught it, or how.
The best thing you can do is try to get the puppy to pee/poop on the drive way when it goes to the bathroom, then bleach the hell out of the spot every time. change your clothes as soon as you can after being near the puppy, bleach your shoes, etc. My vet told me that a 10% bleach/rest water combo sprayed in the yard a couple times should kill it. A friend of mine has a 3 year old dog who was diagnosed with parvo this afternoon, and she's completely UTD on shots. They have no idea where the dog caught it, or how. |

It must have at least 10 minutes contact time on a surface. First you must wipe the surface down and get all organic debris off then allow 1o minutes contact time and repeat cleaning. |

You could do some research on colloidal silver. It's very simple to make. I recall reading of some people using it effectively. I don't have experience using it with parvo, but I use it for myself all the time and for my animals from time to time.
There's a quote saying that drinking colloidal silver is like having a second immune system. |
