Something I myself have thought of and am conflicted about..I see them perhaps still making thier way in weight pull and maybe as hunting dogs for pigs? I don't see them getting too far in england..since aren't they under heavy BSL? or is that elsewhere?? I could be mixed up..maybe its Australia. I Guess part of me sees them still thriving among inner circles of people who still use them as a working breed...but then the cynical side of me sees them as perhaps dwindling and becoming more and more watered down.

In thirty years I see APBT, and all the spinoff breeds banned in the United States. One too many little Fifi dogs is going to get torn up, the straw will break the camel's back and we are going to lose them.

Sadly if things keep going the way they are I see Pit Bulls dwindling in numbers and possibly being banned in most of the 50 states and other places.

The few people who will always carry the APBT as it should be will go into hiding and all the public will get are Ambullies with legs to short and heads to big to even move.

The breeds are ALWAYS heading somewhere, just as every breed of animal on earth, including man, with his own inherent adversity is. Time stands still for no one or no thing. But where are we and our dogs heading is a good question. Certainly evolving, changing, but to what exactly? Is new ground being broken here or can we look to the past and similar situations to predict the future?

My guess is that there will be no extinction of breeds but that due to over breeding with little regards to bettering the breed, I don't think that the historic purpose and associated traits will be preserved in an undiluted state, except for dedicated purists. Others will breed for whatever conformation is popular and widely accepted and whatever type dog does best at sports and agility. There will always be those who breed only for money. Perhaps some will cater to the pet bull trade and breed only the mildest most gentle lines.

Then, in another hundred years or so, people will search for the purists lines and revive them, much in the same way that people have tried to bring back, for example , Native American dogs and other indigenous breeds like "Carolina dogs". There will always be those who have an interest in preserving breeds of animals.

Sadly I think no matter how the breed evolves ... and it will ... right or wrong depending on your definition, there will always be an associated endeavor in which people will extol how "game" the dawg is.
