I thought this could be an inspirational thread devoted to Pitbull or Dog quotes that we find on our stumbling thru the interwebs....
"Pit bulls are... Beauty without Vanity, Strength without Insolence, Courage without Ferocity, and all the Virtues of Man, without her Vices." ~unknown~ "There is no better psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face" *BEST OF ALL* "Don't Breed and Buy while Shelter pets Die" |

" To err is human,
to forgive canine." "If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went." "A dog is 'almost human' and I know of no greater insult to the canine race than to describe it as such." And of course..lord byron because I am a poetry junkie The poor dog, in life the the firmest friend, The first to welcome, foremost to defend, Whose honest heart is still the master's own, Who labours, fights, lives, breathes for him alone, Unhonour'd falls, unnoticed all his worth, Denied in heaven the soul he held on earth, While man, vain insect hopes to be forgiven, And claims himself a sole exclusive heaven. ---------- Post added at 10:25 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:17 AM ---------- the second quote should say.."is NOT" almost human. |

My favorite dog poetry comes from Frances Rodman's "Lost Dog"...
He lifts his hopeful eyes at each new tread, Dark wells of brown with half his heart in each: He will not bark, because he is well-bred, Only one voice can heal the sorry breach. He scans the faces that he does not know, One paw uplifted, ear cocked for a sound Outside his sight. Only he must not go Away from here; by honor he is bound. Now he has heard a whistle down the street; He trembles in a sort of ecstasy, Dances upon his eager, padding feet, Straining himself to hear, to feel, to see, And rushes at a call to meet the one Who of his tiny universe is sun. |

A couple of my favorites are:
"If you talk to animals, they will talk with you, and you will know each other. If you do not talk to them, you will not know them, and what you do not know you will fear. What one fears, one destroys." "There is no breed of dog more in need of our compassion; in need of our call to arms on their behalf; and in need of what should be the full force of our enduring sanctuary." "I don't judge you because you're ignorant or stupid. Don't judge me for what breed I am." There was one I had seen a while back that I cannot remember. If someone knows the exact words, I will love you forever. Something about a pit bull being a jest in gladiator clothing, or something. |

"The rich man's guardian and the poor man's friend,
The only creature faithful to the end. " This one reminds me of Scruffy "A dog is like an eternal Peter Pan, a child who never grows old and who therefore is always available to love and be loved" “Some breeds suffer from great popularity. A motion picture, a television show, a product commercial – all influence the public to seek out a particular breed of dog…” "without the game in us you have lost the entire breed" I don't agree with this quote in it's entirety but ""Every dog starts life with a blank canvas. His destiny etched by the hands of the painter, and each one an artist's original. The portrait painted depends on how the brush is held. Paint with hostility, and a dog learns to fight. Paint with cruelty, and a dog learns fear. Paint with anger, and a dog learns aggression. Paint with praise, and a dog learns confidence. Paint with boundaries, and a dog learns respect. Paint with tenderness, and dog learns to bond. Paint with affection, and a dog learns to love. Every dog is a product of its environment. Bad dogs are not born, they are created. If the portrait is flawed, look to the artist. Stop blaming the dogs!" -Jodi Preis " |

From a favorite author of mine, Albert Payson Terhune, a dedication of one of his books to his 10 favorite dogs (he bred collies):
"Who are far wiser in their way and far better in every way, than I; and yet who have not the wisdom to know it Who do not merely think I am perfect, but who are calmly and permanently convinced of my perfection;and this in spite of fifty disillusions a day Who are frantically happy at my coming and bitterly woebegone in my absence Who never bore me and never are bored by me Who never talk about themselves and who always listen with rapturous interest to anything I may say Who, having no conventional standards, have no respectability; and who, having no conventional consciences, have no sins Who teach me finer lessons in loyalty, in patience, in true courtesy, in unselfishness, in divine forgiveness, in pluck and in abiding good spirits than do all the books I have ever read and all the other models I have studied Who have not deigned to waste time and eyesight in reading a word of mine and who will not bother to read this verbose tribute to themselves In short, to the most gloriously satisfactory chums who ever appealed to human vanity and to human desire for companionship" |

Man is a dog's idea of what God should be. ~Holbrook Jackson
Dogs' lives are too short. Their only fault, really. ~Agnes Sligh Turnbull When a dog barks at the moon, then it is religion; but when he barks at strangers, it is patriotism! ~David Starr Jordan And my favorite: The more I see of man, the more I like dogs. ~Mme. de Staël |

"No one appreciates the very special genius of your conversation as the dog does." -Christopher Morley
"The average dog is a nicer person than the average person." -Andy Rooney "You can run with the big dogs, or you can sit on the porch and bark." -Wallace Arnold "It is fatal to let any dog know that he is funny, for he immediately loses his head and starts hamming it up." -P.G. Here are a few of my favorites :
“It is true enough that pit bulls grab and hold on – but what they most often grab and refuse to let go of is your heart, not your arm.” There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face. ~Ben Williams The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too. Scratch a dog and you'll find a permanent job. ~Franklin P. Jones One reason a dog can be such a comfort when you're feeling blue is that he doesn't try to find out why. ~Author Unknown My goal in life is to be as good of a person my dog already thinks I am. ~Author Unknown The dog was created specially for children. He is the god of frolic. ~Henry Ward Beecher The reason a dog has so many friends is that he wags his tail instead of his tongue. ~Author Unknown "No one appreciates the very special genius of your conversation as much as the dog does." -Christopher Morley "A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself." -Josh Billings "If your dog doesn't like someone you probably shouldn't either." -Unknown "Old dogs, like old shoes, are comfortable. They might be a bit out of shape and a little worn around the edges, but they fit well." -Bonnie Wilcox "No Matter how little money and how few possessions, you own, having a dog makes you rich." -Louis Sabin "Don't accept your dog's admiration as conclusive evidence that you are wonderful." -Ann Landers "The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous, is his dog." -George Graham "A dog teaches a boy fidelity, perseverance, and to turn around three times before lying down." -Roger Caras "Happiness is a warm puppy." -Charles Schulz "Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read" -Groucho Marx My 3 absolute favorites : "A good dog never dies, he always stays, he walks besides you on crisp autumn days when frost is on the fields and winter's drawing near, his head within our hand in his old way." - Anonymous "He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion." - Unknown We give them the love we can spare, the time we can spare. In return dogs have given us their absolute all. It is without a doubt the best deal man has ever made. -Roger Caras |
