We don't even have an AC here and the cops are nearly nonexistant.

I really wish that Roxie would've defended herself... she was really winded from the hit though, I mean the poor kid rolled a few times in the street... It's a good thing I had her dog pack on her, it probably saved her from getting hurt even worse... surprisingly the pack isn't in bad shape at all, considering it's a $10 pack from amazon. But even if she had fought back, she doesn't do much damage... she's only a Whippet x afterall, they're no where near as strong as terriers. She's never left a mark on any of the dogs that have attacked her, even those with short fur.

Even when my grandparent's new Lhaso Apso mix attacked her, that dog didn't have a single scratch on it.

I would not mind retrieving a dart... it would give me a chance to beat the crap out of the dog. :P

I can understand this completely. there are only two good walk spots nearby for my dog and one is past a dog park so I wont walk there..and the other there is an aggressive collie/basset mix that has attacked towards slayer twice and is ALWAYS running free.

I take them to a 100+ acre park where there's never anyone to exercise, either that or the local elementary school that's fully fenced. Not like they don't get exercise LOL, I just don't risk walking them around the neighborhood anymore.

Yup, that's mostly what we do, too. We take them to the elementary school, or the public little baseball field that is fenced in. We luckily also have a 100 acre park (where most of my pictures are) where they can just RUN and hunt and be dogs... but that one sometimes has other people, so it's hit or miss if we get to enjoy it or not. Luckily the last few times I've gone, it's been EMPTY!

The taser idea is good. If the taser drops the dog to the ground, you can maybe check it's collar for ID and then go ballistic on it's owners.

Sounds like my spot! There has been the occasional jogger, but that's once in a blue moon and I just put them in down/stays til they pass. It amazes me that there is never anyone else there taking advantage of it!

I carry a knife. I'm not afraid to kill a bitch. I cut a dog on the nose pretty good once.
I have a small sword with me. Don't like bending over to stab the dog. I rather do it comfortably maintaining my posture.
I used to carry a stick but it is not as effective. Some dogs still keep coming even if you are hitting them. If you stab them, those buggers turn back & run away like they just seen the devil.

knives , swords wtf .are you trying to kill the dog or just make it f@ck off ? with a knife you had better know what you are doing b/c you could get charged with causing unnecessary suffering ! and you couldd get bit by a pissed off rabid dog ! also bear in mind that accidents will and do happen ,lets say your out with your dog he goes after a rabbit or whatever and ends up mixing it with someones leashed dog, seconds before you get there they stab or chop your dog with a sword ,seconds is all it would take.would you be happy about that ? i know what i would do to someone stabbing my dog ,but that is not for a public forum !!

If it doesn't go away, I would kill it. Anyway, I walk my dog at weird hours, when most people are sleeping and the streets are empty. So there is no possibility of meeting people in the streets with their dogs. The problem I have is with people that don't contain their dogs and they come charging at us. Secondly, my dog is always on leash, so I would never let him 'go after a rabbit' or anything like that (unless we go to an appropriate place where he would be allowed to hunt).

Look, reality isn't pretty. The truth is we humans are just as much pack animals as our dogs and we will do what we think necessary to defend our pack. A stray approaches me or my dogs in an aggressive manner and I will most certainly kill it to protect me and mine. I am not about to wait until I get bitten or my dog attacked to defend us.

My dog wouldn't be going after anything because I keep them secured in my yard with supervision or leashed. However, if one f them did go after someone or their dog because an accident happened and they were loose, it would be my fault if that person killed my dog in defense of themselves or their dog. I can't very well blame someone for doing the same thing I would do.

If nothing else works to get the dog away from you, then certain measures should be taken. Most sane dogs will run off if you kick them, but if the dog keeps coming at you and is tearing into you... why wouldn't you do whatever it takes to get the dog off you?

then just shoot the f@cker ,all this talk of knives & swords is pathetic ! you have to get pretty close to use a knife & you risk injury to yourself (rabies) or w/e . dont get me wrong(as i think others have lol )i am not against killing a mad -dog , but come-on people do it quickly and clean as i hope we are a more humane that !! btw the TASER sounds like it may be a good idea . ps i have owned these dogs for nearly 27 yrs and i have been through most situations , one just off the top of my head was when a large feral dog saw me as dinner, luckily i saw it coming and dropped my dogs leash, sure enough without going into detail it didnt hang around when faced with 39 lbs of hell !! ps we dont have rabies here ! j

It would be lovely if I could carry a gun and all, but that's not an option, lol. I also don't think that tasers are legal here, idk. I hear different things on that subject. On a really shitty side, there's a "no weapons allowed" rule in my house. So the knife is an easy secret, but I have no bleeding clue how I'd hide a taser, lol.

I'm with the taser suggestion. I carry a baton taser that is about 18 inches long. Will work perfectly if a loose dog comes after mine when out walking.
Fortunately, I haven't had to use it on a dog yet, just the sound of it snapping when you pull the trigger seems to be enough to make the dogs back off and move on, so far.

I don't try to hide the taser, it looks just like a black billy club.

Yup. Me too.
I would ALWAYS have my blade on me when walking my dogs. Shoot. My dogs were leashed and with me. I wasn't gonna let a loose mutt just come and attack me or mine. Im glad I never had to pull it out. My mind was already made up.
