white pit changing colour
 

A while ago I rescued a solid white pit when he was 9 months old, he is now around 11 months to a year and his colour is changing at a fast rate. He is getting large patches of blue/brown skin pigmentation and his face is developing two large patches over both his eyes. He also has freckles on his nose which seem to be getting bigger and bigger. I was wondering if anyone else has had the same thing happened and if anyone knows if his fur will change completely with the pigmentation?

The color white does not hide changing pigmentation therefore you will see the skin pigment changes in your dog more than a red or black dog because of it. I sold the only white dog I ever bred to a good friend and 6 months later almost didnt recognize the dog, she was covered in freckles and her once black nose was now a blotch of red and black running up her nose towards her eyes. Its normal.

a mate of mine had a white stafford with a black patch on his eye / pure white "apart from the patch "as he grew he developed the same thing ,underlying dalmation spots !lol

its called ticking...........

pigment in a white dog is a good thing, given the links to issues with dogs who lack pigment.

dalmation spots are not the same, though linked through the same color genes, theyre different.

itwas funny to see /lay him on his back, as my dog did you would see little blackiush patches on his skin and not fur

What an interesting change! I didn't realize pits had any pigment changes as they aged.... I guess ya learn something new every day!

It's a white dog thing.

Exact same for Rocko. His spots starting showing through his coat over time. To this day we still find spots we've never noticed before lol.

He has black fur. Lily has no black fur, only black ticking on her skin that you can see through her fur.

It is also quite common to see the fur color change as a result of the skin pigment, I had a male years ago that was majority red with a black sable color to his coat, as he grew older his coat went almost completly black other than his red (Ironhead) mask. His sister also went from a light buckskin to a deep red with age, damn cute dog you have no matter the color.

That is SOOOO neat..makes me want a white dog just to see what i end up with..hehe (not seriously gonna get one) Cool though!!!

Oh my,Liliana. She really did change colors,that's funny. With Chloe it was only her nose and the little spots on her ears changed slightly. Nothing like the others pictured here. Maybe it has something to do with her pigmentation being chocolate rather than black.

Actually it's seal blue, looks black in almost all his pics though http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/wink.png ... I was posting the pics to show how he barely had any of the lighter spots as a pup... and now they're everywhere (that's what I meant by exactly like Lily.. not the seal blue spots).

My sis n laws aunt has a white apbt that had to have a blood transfusin when he was a pup (dont ask me why) but soon after his skin pigment started spotting. now, lmao, she is convinced that it happened cause they used blood from a dalmation. no matter how much i try to convince her its natural she just wont believe me.http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/no2.gif
