Default Rant - Ideas Welcome
So, a new guy moved in across the street today with what looks like a tall Rottweiler-mix type dog.
Anyway, this assholes' dog keeps coming into our front yard (which is not fenced) and barking at my cats through the window.

I can't even take the dogs out to go to the bathroom right now because the dumbass is sitting on his porch with the dog and I know as soon as I go out there the dog will be over in our yard. People are so.......... frustrating!

I plan on calling AC tomorrow as soon as they are open. I'd go talk to him but he looks like a "gang-banger" type fellow and so I would rather not, especially considering my man is out of town so I am here alone for the next few days.

Any other ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

My suggestion... a pellet gun. Won't kill the dog but it'll run his ass off.

Get some vinegar and dilute it with water in a spray bottle. It won't hurt the Rottie, but it'll sting like hell if you spray it in his face, and keep him from coming near you. I hate making the dog pay the price for his owner's idiocy, but its a lot better than a dog fight.

Dude, just go over there, introduce yourself since you're neighbors. Then let him know there's leash and containment laws, and that it would be in the best interest of the dogs if he could keep his in his yard and you don't want his dog on your property.

X2.

I would start off nice and give him the benefit of the doubt that he is a decent person. I would explain to him why his loose dog on my property could present a problem and how his containing his dog will make things easier for both of us.

I would also warm him up first, compliment his dog...even if I had to lie...

I got it! I should combine all of these ideas! I will go over there and tell the guy "if you don't follow the laws for the safety of your dog that I will shoot it with my pellet gun" then I will spray him in the face with vinegar and walk away. Perfect!

There you go, that's how you make friends.

I am gathering that you do not have a fenced backyard to take the dogs to for potty break?

Let us know, how it goes - I have met some 'types' that looked tougher than nails, but turned out to be decent people, just not always totally 'with it' when it comes to being a considerate neighbor, i.e., not letting your Rottie run loose. Just needed an education

I think this would be a good first step.
If that doesn't work, then come up with some other ideas. Maybe a sprinkler hooked up to a motion sensor. Everytiime the dog comes into your yard, the sprinkler turns on and he gets soaked... of course that won't work if the dog likes water...hmmmmm

what does gang-banger type look like? You could just go over and say my dog don't like dogs and i don't want them getting into a fight could you make sure your dog stays out my yard. if he don't do that then go with step two and call AC.

but if he is really a gang banger type with a real gang attitude you calling AC first would do nothing but piss him off

I'd tell him I own a pit who doesn't like other dogs and that, to prevent a fight, I would appreciate it if he keeps his dog from coming into my area. If the dog happens to get away from him and comes over, I will spray it in the face with a squirt bottle of vinegar ( I used to use it to keep the pups from leash and collar chewing, I don't dilute it and I have had some messed up dogs actually grow accustomed to the taste) so as not to hurt it but prevent it from possible being hurt. Then shoot the shit for a few and leave.

I do. I know all of my neighbors. We chat with ours from time to time. Some more than others. Our neighbor across the street, we do a baked good exchange around the holidays with the lady, and her hubby and I exchange garden plants and seeds every year.We go over to their place and swim, and do cook outs.
The couple that abutts my backyard,we talk off and on.Talk about the dogs, his kids, and general stuff.

So,some of us still carry out the dying art of being ''neighborly'' with our neighbors. lol

Just go over when the gang-banger is out. Tell him, "look motherfucker, I don't want your damn mutt on my property. There's laws about that. Contain your fucking animal please."
(Make sure your packing. Safety off, one in chamber. LOL)

We had an asshole in my old neighborhood who walk his dog and let it poop in people's yards. He would just walk his dog right up into our yard to go and my dogs would all be going crazy at the window. The stupid jerk would stand there like he was completely oblivious to the commotion. One time I opened the door and went off on him and he just acted like he didn't hear me because he had headphones on.

I understand that sometimes your dog will just start going somewhere, but that's why you bring a bag with you. One time Joe did in someones yard and I had forgotten to bring a bag so I knocked on the people's door to told them and asked for a bag to clean it up. I just don't understand some people.
