i am so tired of hearing this stupid myth. if pitbulls had locking jaws they wouldn't be able to open their mouths and they do not have the strongest bite force rottweilers do! Anyone have any idea where the hell these stupid myths came from anyway? im pretty sure it came from a bunch of moronic idiots but i wanna kno where did it originate and what gave people the idea this crap is true?

People are stupid and they come up with stupid things. It originally came from the way that APBT's fought. Rather than the style of other dogs (Rip and tear) Pits grabbed their rival and held on. People then took that an exaggerated it to come up with the locking jaw myth. And people think because the breed has these huge jowls that they have the strongest bite which couldn't be further from the truth.

I have no idea where it came from, but I'm guess undereducated people.
Rottweilers have the strongest bite pressure of the domestic dog, wolves are a slight higher than the rotties, but surpass all other canids. Locking jaw myth probably came from a bulldog anscestor's ''bite style'' wich is to grasp, clamp and hold onto the nose of a bull during the act of ''bull baiting''(dogs being released on a bull).Being a bull and terrier breed, the bulldog breeds bite and hold/shake may give the IMPRESSION of a locked on bite that the dog cannot disengage. They can in fact let go,and the jaws never actually lock, they just strongly grip and hold. |

Rotts just have the strongest of the "big bad three" (Pit Bulls, Rotts, GSDs). ---------- Post added at 08:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:49 PM ---------- okay now im lost i never heard of the okavaji or what ever having the strongest bite i thought it was the african Dhole lol |

Ok so IMO its all in the head size. lets say an am bully with a huge head compared to a german rott or an american rott with a smaller head, the am bully's bite force would be more. Because of the more muscle they have in there jaw. right? lol i dont know anymore. |
