Man I remember the first time I saw Off the Chain... I actually believed it... and I thought there was no way a "dogfighter" could ever love his dogs. Back then, I only knew about dog matching what was in the media... lol. What a load of crap. Can they legally call this BS a "documentary"?
Ditto, looking back I want to slap myself for believing some things I used to believe.

Just watched this doc...
I don't agree with how they demonize all inbreeding/linebreeding... In a knowledgeable breeder's hands, we've all seen how (with proper culling) linebreeding can be a good tool to build a good dog.
But it shows how showrings destroy dogs. And how health suffers when you breed for form instead of function...
I especially like how they showed the progressive distortion of the Bull Terrier skull, although I'm sure many people here would disagree with the video and I on that.
I also really enjoyed the Basset Hound bit.
I have a relative who hunted with his Bassets (not any more) and photos of his dogs, they look just like the "old style" basset it shows in the documentary. So obviously these crude distortions don't occur if you breed for work.

That was a cool doc. I think inbreeding and linebreeding is somewhat okay when the breeder is breeding for function and not just form, and even then it has to be doe by people who understand their pedigrees and have a good understanding of common sense.

I just couldnt believe how the German Shepherds looked! That was crazy, those poor dogs..

I rented the disc for this on my netflix about a year ago and it was purely one of the stupidest documentaries for the breed as always. Most of those dogs were fat ambullies and all else just failed.

People are very misinformed on the whole issue of inbreeding.Even most of the stuff people believe when it comes to human inbreeding is completely off base.

I noticed. I think it was almost as bad as Off the Chain.

I know... I also love how the woman asked the guy if he would have kids with his daughter, like that's even remotely similar?? People acting like animals are humans...

Right, I used to breed pigeons and inbreeding was nothing...

Is it just me or do Puggles look one hell of a lot like how the original pug looked? I thought that was kind of cool...

Just out of curiosity, how? Other than using the wrong terminology, and I think he said a few other things, but I don't remember.

They do, I think Puggles are pretty cool, but I'm not a big fan of breeding "pet" dogs. There's plenty of good mutts in shelters for pets, IMO.

I can only think of the lady trainer who was making any sense... who else did you see on there that was talking straight?

Puggles do seem pretty cool, but they just arent enough dog for me. With the current state of animals in shelters I dont think anyone should be breeding pet dogs, the only people who should breed are animals who work and have jobs, or ones that serve people in some way.
Companion animals should come from shelters.

Yeah, I agree. Now I think there should be just enough breeders, even of pet breeds, to keep breeds from extinction... but that's about it...

I also don't have a problem with breeding sporting dogs, because they're the healthiest examples of their breed. I'm not big on people breeding purely conformation dogs. That's how you get dogs like in that Pedigree Dogs Exposed doc.

Yea a dog that goes out and works, and has a specific use, OTHER THAN just being a pet dog in someones home, should be the only kind allowed for breeding right now. There are plenty of pet dogs in shelters. No need to breed them for at least 5 years.

Fortunately and unfortunately, though, dogs are the property of the owner. If they want to breed their dogs, they will. It's a shame in a lot of cases but then if people could make someone stop breeding dogs, I'm sure it'd be the game-bred dogs to go first, not the showdogs!
