Default What was this magnificint Animal? Obviously a bully
Today at the vet I saw temost magnificit dog. I will say due to his size however I was a bit fearful. Mind you he was perfectly well behaved and under his owners total control. He was very obviously some kind of bully breed. When I asked the owner, mind you there was a lot of commotion, it sounded like he said Pressa? or Preso?

Does anyone know what this dog is I am talking about?

Beautiful animal. Personally I wouldn't want one, he was a little too much dog for me. But he was an awesome dog and very very well behaved. Kudos to his owner

Presa Canario? Perro de Presa Canario - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A really great molosser, I think they're a common breed used in Bandogs.

Sounds like a Presa Canario. Awesome dogs. I've had the pleasure of meeting a few my vet's son breeds. And had the pleasure of my vet trying to get me to take one (WHY AM I SO POOR?!).

Yup. Presa Canario. I hope to own one of these magnificent animals one day. I've heard people describe them as "pitbulls on steroids".

Like I said beautiful animal but due to size and energy that is just too much dog for me lol. I think I will stick to obtaining my dream dog, theStaffordshire Bull Terrier. Thats a little more my speed. But again, kudos to his owner. He had him very well trained. Unlike the shih tzu on the other side of the room.

They are not like Pit Bulls at all, they may look similar because of the cropped ears but they are nothing a like in size and temperament. I fostered one and I can tell you I haven't met a more calm and respectful dog ever. They are not for everyone but they sure are amazing dogs.

Here are a couple Presas from Spain

rolled their dogs as a tradition but not like a 5 hr battle, they would take their dogs to church and have the town priest bless the dogs before their battle. I believe their fighting was very simlar to that of the Tosas in Japan. They were used to hunt and manage difficult cattle for the slaughter. They rolled the dogs to see if they had fight in them since they also had to deal with stray and wild canines and this was part of the breeding selection but the dogs were never left for too long in other to avoid injuries. But at the end of the day these dogs were not exclusively selected for that, I hear the kennels in Spain still roll them but I wouldn't think they could come close to the APBT pound for pound. They are just a catchdogs/guard dogs that will exterminate unecessary predators in their land.

There are many diverse types of this breed, after all it has been a reconstructed breed that almost became extinct so they say different breeds came into the mix. Most of them are at minimum 100+ pounds, I fostered one that was 120+ at 10 months, it really depends on the dog's build and height.

I got this from another site it is very interesting

This is not a Presa but its another breed from Spain and boy I am in love with them

i say we leave this thread for posting pix

i love this breed and similar.

i've only been in contact with a presasa once and BOY he was a handful! i was called in to help with a rescue. some douche (drug dealer) had one and had his house raided.

the cops couldnt get in the back yard so they called AC, AC couldnt get him and the cops were going to shoot him but instead called a tucson pit rescue owned by my friend. i was lucky enough to be hanging out there and helping that day so went along.

that dog had more fight in it then i've seen in any other animal. but literally once we got him out of the yard and i guess out of his "territory" he calmed right down and even rode to the rescue in the back seat with me petting him.

after 3mos of trying to rehab he ended up being PTS because he couldnt be rehomed.

but damn that was one hell of a dog!!!

I love those dogs. Look at this magnificent animal, who obviously doesn't like to get grasped by the nuts. (4:40)
