And how can I help her get ready?
I just found out that my job wants me to go to India for 10mos to help with a new call center and a possible new client. Right away I agreed to go, but after getting home a realized i hadnt thought some things through. Now my brother will be watching my dogs. They both grew up around him so Tweek for sure will be fine and she's been used to me leaving for business. But Sai is the one I'm worried about. The first time I left for business (3days) with her, she developed an eating disorder to where she would only eat when i was home and in bed. Because of that, sometimes she would go so long with out eating waiting for me to come home she would make her self sick and barf. She's finally over that, especially now that brother has moved in. But Sai is very very attached to me. My brother told me that when ever I do leave for several days all she does is poop, eat (barely), and sleep in my bed. So I dont know how she will handle me leaving for 10mos. I also wondered if there was some ideas you guys had that could help me help her cope with me being gone so long. Now the India trip is not finalized so I dont know if I really have to go, but if I do go I will only have a very short amount of time to get ready. |

Dogs and kids are more resilient than we give them credit for. If you do go I would suggest leaving her some sweaty piece of clothing that smells strongly of you and ask your brother to spend extra time with Sai so she won't pine quite so much when you leave. Also, ask him to do things to get her interested in life like take her places with him, just the two of them, that dogs like to go. Parks, fast food drive through for a cheeseburger..stuff like that to lift her spirits.
My ex-MIL had a Lab mix that was so attached to her when she injured her back and spent a week in bed he never left her side even to eat, drink or potty. No matter what we did he just wanted to be with her and was so upset by her being injured that he wouldn't even eat the food and water we brought into the room. Unfortunately, she moved due to work and was unable to take him with her. He pined and moped and whined but he eventually got back to normal after a couple weeks. |

no, she is FA and wont let anyone else get close to her with out being muzzled.
its not that he hates her. i mean he plays with her sometimes and she actually she likes him quite a bit. my concern is that she wont get the amount of affection she's used to. with me, i walk her, play with her, talk to her, and she sleeps in the bed with me. so i wonder if she'll get the attention she needs also, my brother is the only one who i trust to care for my dogs properly. he knows them so he knows to walk them separately, how to control them if they try to act up in public and all that. i cant have just have anyone deal with either of them lol |

Well, then, I guess your brother will be the one to care for her especially if she likes him. Sometimes, the dog picks you wether you like it or not, lol. From what you describe I bet they'll do fine together while you're away.
I didn't think your brother didn't like her, but people are with dogs the same as they are with people. Sometimes its true friendship and sometimes its "meh". As much as we like to think we aren't partial we do seem to have our favorites. I love my brothers dogs and would care for both Sid and trinity if needed, but we all know that as much as I like Sid Trinity and I have a bond and she's my favorite. |

One of the biggest problems of pit bull ownership is the limited options when you are called out of town as there are very few places or people you can trust to manage and care for them in you absence. You are lucky you have a place and person you can trust, the dog will cope and be fine. The dog will also welcome you back as it will not forget you.

that's it jean... he's just more partial to Tweek than Sai. To him Sai is like the annoying little sister compared to Tweek you know.
thanks atheist and you are totally right. if she were a toy poodle i could drop her off pretty much any where and not worry. i am lucky i have my brother who is experienced with them. i'm sure both of you guys are right and she'll be fine. lol maybe its me who needs to figure out how to cope lol. i'm gonna miss those butter heads if i go lmao. |
