Hey you experts, answer me this....

Can you tell if a dog is a (insert any popular bloodline here) just by looking at it? Can you rule out a bloodline by looking at a dog? What are some determining factors?

gennnniiikk 06-04-2011 09:57 PM

this has been small drip under pressure says... no and no...http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif

I had a question similar to this too!

Baloo has a longer tail than most but he still carries it low. A man that told me he bred pit bulls (backyard breeder for sure) and he saw Baloo and said that his tail was longer because it was some certain line of pit bull?

Is there any truth in this?

elektikaka 06-04-2011 10:06 PM

very tightly bred dogs from the same lines are more likely to share common traits, but nothing is 100%...i thinkhttp://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif...oh crap.... they say if a dogs got a red nose its not a Colby lololol
hows that for a vague answer?

JohnMaltczevitch 06-04-2011 10:09 PM

http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif Thanks Everyone!

Lee, I guess Jess is a Colby dog then.

elektikaka 06-04-2011 10:11 PM

i will say this, the only dogs ive really paid much attention to for the past couple years is Bills, and nowadays they are very consistent in appearance.
litter after litter using different sire/dam, same results

JohnMaltczevitch 06-04-2011 10:15 PM

Interesting.. but would you say with certainty without actually knowing that they have that bloodline that one was?

elektikaka 06-04-2011 10:30 PM

nope....i wouldnt say anything is 100%....BUT

another example tho where youd be able to take a decent guess would be the Boogieman dogs...look at the more recent litters

---------- Post added at 03:30 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:26 PM ----------

the men behind the dogs the ones with a vision of what they want. they are the reasons why some lines will have specific traits.... products of a successful breeding program.

JohnMaltczevitch 06-04-2011 10:30 PM

Understood. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/wink.png My inexperienced eye wouldnt be able to tell, no matter whose dogs they were.

elektikaka 06-04-2011 10:32 PM

neither would 99% of the other people in the world. lol...i know i canthttp://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif

Whilst certain lines have a certain appearance, I don't know if they would hold that look exclusively. There could well be other bred dogs which also have the same look, even if by scatterbred chance.

I haven't seen many dogs of a single line in the flesh. They seem to all be crosses there days eg Jeep/rb etc. I probably wouldn't know a single line dog if I fell over it. I have known some pretty learned guys who could pick some lines, or at least state that a dog has the look of a certain line.

My dogs produce very consistent looking dogs. Would other people be able to tell? IDK, but I can LOL

AdobeCreativeSuite 06-05-2011 12:17 AM

You can guess but you can't know, in my opinion. I am certainly NOT AN EXPERT though. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif

no. no.

not with 100% certainty.

I think with effort you can make anything look like anything.

However, it IS possible to take a look and make an educated guess. A person with a real good dog eye could probably be right 75% of the time...maybe a bit more.

Pipindula 06-05-2011 03:57 AM

If you are familiar with the line you run can sometimes tell. I usually can tell a Sorrells dog. It is not 100% but I can pic out certain features that Sorrells dogs have.

But Certain lines (family) have distinct features. The eye set on a Sorrells dog. The head. At a show I can spot them and the ones that I have asked the owner about are Sorrells dogs. At the LA show There was a group that had quite a few. And I nailed it spot on.

Lee said it best

No and No.You cannot tell 100% that a dog is a certain bloodline by visual identification.I will say that you might be able to diccern some ancsetry by body styles and colors.(euro vs american bred dobes, east german vs american show GSD,APBT vs American bullys) Lee D says it best.........

I am not saying that it is always 100% However I can usually pick out a Sorrells dog. Especially a Heavy line bred one.

soydaykam 07-04-2011 11:13 AM

Oh fuck, Cynthia I was gonna say the same thing about Bert Sorrell's bloodline. They have that certain "look" to them, as do Colby dogs. Although nothing is 100%.

ThomasMannfanny 07-04-2011 11:37 AM

I think Gotti line dogs are pretty obvious mainly because of the cheek wrinkles.... and I'm not even into Ambullys lol.
But to answer your question, no I am not capable of knowing exactly 100% what bloodline/s a dog has.

JohnMaltczevitch 07-04-2011 03:02 PM

Thanks everyone!!

Cynthia, thanks for that.. Its much easier for me to "get" it when I can actually see so many from on line.

Im not sure if its the angle but the 12th dogs pictured doesnt quite fit with the others.. in fact, going strictly by that pic, Im not sure I would even see it as an apbt. Almost looks like a beagle... http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/confused.png
