Default Pitbull nextdoor to a pitbull & rottie?
So my neighbor has a GORGEOUS rednose? pitbull female. Stunning dog.
Anyway, all she does is sit in his back yard, I NEVER see him exercise her, or hear him out back playing with her. And when he is around her, he is kinda mean to her. She sits at our fence and peeks thru to look at the kids and puppy. Never barking, just watching, prob wanting to play (but no thanks).

Behind us is a Rottie and mini-pin. The rottie sometimes charges the fence barking at Aggie when she goes outside. I hope the more time she spends out there the more accostomed he will get to her? The rottie actually has broken 2 posts before! He is a big a$$ dog....UGH!

This makes me apprehensive about EVER leaving Aggie in the back yard for any amount of time, unsupervised or not, leashed or loose...afterall it is MY back yard. OR even with my kids and Aggie playing back there.
She is an indoor dog tho so time outside is limited to play/exercise, and of course my kids are ALWAYS under my watchful eye, as will our new family member.

I guess the dog agression is what concerns me, you know? Not just with Aggie as she grows, but with the other pit, and rottie..... Is this a bad combination of neighbors?

I completely understand your situation. The neighbors behind me have 2 beagles and a German Sheppard that charge the fence and bark all night long.

Yea, well they are on good behavior MOST of the time. Esp the female pit, never hear her complain... (poor baby she should be taken away from him!)

But I am wondering as my little pit-mix grows - and might defend her territory- that we will have a constant "to the fences" battle each outing. LOL.
Plus I dont want the negative/agressive energy of the other dogs to feed into her, and her become agressive with us as we will be back there too(or towards my kids) bc they love to play chase and fetch back there.

I understand owning any dog, esp. a pitbull means ALWAYS a watchful eye, and I AM prepared to do that. I just have no experience with the other dogs'/breeds, OR dog agression. But we will be training and learning together, as a family.

Again, I have always been a chihuahua owner so this is little different and a WELCOMED change.
So just wanted some opinions.

This could be a real problem. It's one of the things that I do check out when placing pups/dogs with people.....

Is there any way you can build a good sturdy fence within your yard?

Is this a bad combination of neighbors?
Yes. In my opinion, yes. It's one of the problems one does encounter (more and more it seems) when owing this breed or any dog really....

If it was me, I'd try introducing that Rottweiler to the pup. Dogs get very frustrated when they can't investigate what is right there. Does your pup go up to him to say hi?

I would let the Rott "see" the pup as much as possible -- close up and be able to smell her. Maybe play with the pup in your lap right next to the fence where the Rott is, hold the pup up to the fence and let the Rott see it is a puppy, and let him smell her through the fence (of course only if the Rott doesn't go into a rage or something, but most of the time they are just enthusiastic about wanting to see what it is!).

Try speaking with your neighbors in a completely non aggressive manner. Explain to them you have concerns about their dogs crashing into the fence like that. Maybe what you could do is split the cost of a new.fence with your neighbors and get a decent one. Also remember its common for dogs to "talk to eachother" thru fences.
Dot let the neighbors dogs scare you off. This is an issue you can definatly fix =)

Thanks carla, I can certainly do that.
My kids play with the puppy in their radio flyer wagon by the pitbull...she sniffs and whines a bit, scratches at the fence b/c she wants to play. I feel so sorry for her.

I think the rottie is curious as well, just big and intimidating. He broke the fence when they first moved in a year ago, no sod, just wet dirt so he had dug under it a bit and broke it from the bottom up, and it was a sopping wet fence at the time as it had rained for days. But yes, I will need to keep an eye on the posts for sure.

I think playing with her by the rottie is a good idea. She is very timid shy and scared right now- i guess from being abandoned. THANK you for this advice.

There was a rottie next door to my grammas house who killed her shit-zu....Poor scruffy, didnt even see it coming, however, he did go under the fence. So thats what impression I have on rotties. Horrific death to unsuspecting lilttle dogs.
Ill let you know how it goes with the wine & cheese mixer....AKA meet & greet. LOL!!!

You know I had the EXACT same issue, with my neighbors female Rott and their pit/boxer.Lemon juice in a squirt bottle,a police batton, and solid training works well.Use the lemon juice to squirt through the fence,a police batton in case it doesn't stop em,and train your dog to behave!

Rotties are awesome, but they are often pretty DA. As are pit bulls...

I would talk to your neighbors about getting a better fence up and perhaps containing their dogs via a proper chain setup or kennel (with top and bottom) when outdoors. Even a good fence isn't going to stop a determined dog.

Never leave your dog loose outside unattended. They are smart and will find ways to entertain yourself that you don't like. And they are notorious escape artists.

lol, we have some neighbor dog issues as well. Our next door neighbor has 3 boston terriers, a chihuahua, and a large gs mix?. The big dog just ignores us, the puppy, and our kids, but the little dogs drive me freakin crazy when we go out to play. The 2 female bostons, and the chi just run up and down the fence line barking like crazy the entire time, and I've already had to speak with our neighbor about their male boston, he's very smart, and has long since figured out how to "climb" right over the chain link fence, yet they consistently leave the house with him left in the backyard. So far, our puppy doesn't seem to be too fond of him at all, and he's pretty obnoxious with the kids (he jumps and bites ALOT, and has destroyed several toys in our yard) Already spoken with my husband about talking to them again, and asking either to put up a better fence on their side, or something....the neighbors are pretty nice, just stupid, and I hate to have it get to the point we have to call AC, but if they're not home for us to tell them he's out again....what are we to do? It's not fair that we can't have our kids and puppy in OUR yard without the annoyiance.... (I think I just created that word btw...lol) They're not ever outside unsupervised, but still. It's seriously annoying.

It sounds like the neighbor's dogs you're dealing with might just be curious about what that little furry thing on the other side of the fence is at this point though, I'd try to "introduce" them through the fence and see how they act...they might make through the fence friends! lol
