Yeah, don't ask for others opinion about your dog. Do whichever look you like.

Me personally, i like non cropped ears.

And like everyone has said that is an American Bully... I don't know why breeders/byb keep calling those APBTs.

Why would you do unnecessary surgery on your pup??? plus dogs use there ears (positioning) to communicate I.E hey i dont want to fight. taking the tail and ears are like taking the voice from a human. if you bumped into a stranger and he couldent say friend or foe what would you assume....

Oh that's so silly. Sako's ears are cropped and he can show just as much "emotion" as a natural earred dog.. I've seen him do it.

VitaliyMurnov 03-15-2011 09:41 PM

Cropping is a matter of personal preference on the owner, not the dog. Different people like different things, that's what makes the world go round. Personally, I'd rather keep them natural. But please keep in mind that it is a cosmetic surgery that is basically "for your eyes only". http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/wink.png

This is absolutely false. I have been around many cropped/docked dogs, and have absolutely NO trouble reading their body language. And other dogs don't have a problem with it either. If you look at all the different species of wild dogs I'm pretty sure you won't find any of them with floppy ears.

Also, spaying and neutering are essentially "unnecessary" procedures that are usually performed simply for human convenience. Are you against those as well?

huedaanydrax 03-16-2011 06:37 PM

Leave em, that way your dog might stand out a bit among the thousands of big blue cropped ambullies. Seems like everyone with one chops their ears almost completely off for some reason. I have one cropped, one natural and much prefer the natural. Although if you get him cropped make sure to see pics the vet has done on bullies, nothing looks worse than a bad crop like my female has.

Thomas12400 03-17-2011 01:00 AM

I have both a cropped & non cropped bully.

My female looks better (I think) with natural ears.
I couldn't imagine them being cropped.

My male pup just got his cropped about 2 weeks ago, and they have turned out to be more than I could hope for.
I think he looks better with cropped ears.
Plus I'm showing him in the ABKC, & they seem to like the cropped look.

Just be sure you are 100% POSITIVE you want them done.
It's not like they can just grow back if you aren't happy with them, lol.

Good luck..
I wish you and Gator the best of luck, whatever you choose. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png

To crop or not to crop...

Hey all,
I am really debating whether to crop my pups ears or not. He actually has really nice ears so far (his Mama has nice natural ears too) I know that UKC says that either way is acceptable but I'm nervous about leaving his ears natural just because it seems that most conformation APBT's still have cropped ears. On the flip side, I don't want people to panic when they see my big "mean" Pit bull. Things have changed and this seems to be a hot debate topic right now...Any thoughts, opinions or advice would be great.
Also, I do know of a great vet who has done ears for 25 years, he did 2 of my dogs about 15-18 years ago and they were beautiful.

KaterinaNJq 10-04-2011 02:55 AM

UKC pitterstaffs mostly have cropped ears, from what I've personally seen, ADBA APBT's usually have natural ears. If you're handling in UKC, I'd say go for a crop since it's pretty common.

The topic has been debated at length. You will find many a discussion if you use the search function.

WOw, thanks! That comparison was great!

VarenHokalos 10-04-2011 03:23 AM

My personal opinion-don't crop. you asked

Teprophopay 10-04-2011 03:28 AM

can you post a photo of your dog?

Chubrehege 10-04-2011 03:58 AM

So you'll be showing in UKC conformation I'm assuming? I would probably crop then..

Sako is dual registered AKC/UKC, and his are cropped. Mostly because he had HORRIBLE ears beforehand and there was just no way I was paying what I did for him, only to end up with an adult dog with a crappy set of ears that wouldn't place in the ring.

This is the only time I'd crop a dog, a mixed breed, or a dog I didn't plan on showing, would not be cropped.

Xxmlqevq 10-04-2011 04:53 AM

Is it the puppy in your avatar? That looks like an American Bully to me...

immewaycypef 10-04-2011 04:57 AM

Yeah this is really an opinional thing that is gonna be different from person to person but I think there is alot of personality in a dogs ears and tail and they look unnatural without em, and I guess it's kinda mean too. Thats just my humble opinion though.

jokilewqs 10-04-2011 05:38 AM

Pick one and go with it. Yes, people tend to be afraid of cropped dogs. But if you don't care, then go for it. I love the look of a nice crop on this breed. I have also seen several natural eared APBTs placing well at UKC shows.

VawSwaspamups 11-03-2011 07:00 AM

I definitely prefer not cropping ears. They are too much fun to rub and play with! To each their own.

That's what I was thinking too.. I prefer natural ears on the Bullies.

jeraveike 11-03-2011 03:54 PM

I would imagine that someone who is going to "panic" when they see your dog coming, would do so whether or not you crop the ears http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png

I say do what YOU want to do. If you prefer the look of cropped ears, crop them. If you like natural ears, leave them.

I personally would crop and not worry about what "people" think of me.
