What pitbull should you get? If you are serious about that question, I recommend you get none. There is just one pitbull and that's the American Pitbull Terrier, other dogs are just pit-type dogs. Please don't get a bulldog and then try to cesar millan the dog aggression out cause you can't, it's genetic. Although some are cold, generally they are hot. Apbt + toy poodle = dead poodle. On the other hand you could look into getting an Amstaff or KC (NO workingline) staffie, but even then you'll need to socialize it like crazy and have it around the toy poodle alot and that doesn't even make sure it'll be fine with it. You'd be best off getting a puppy anyway, that's for sure. Also you could look into getting an American Bully if you like that type of pitmix and don't mind potential vetbills. Also they're found everywhere being byb, which results in alot of them being human aggressive since they don't care what they put into the mix as long as they get a fat hippo like dog.

truth fully pits are my second favorite dog what i really like are the hunting type like labs, wemeiraners, and setters. But i totally agree with the age thing my friend has a black lab almost full grown and she is in the 8th grade. She cant control that dog for her life but i actually am able to control him so she asks me to come with her on walks cause she cant control her own dog its a shame really i cannot tell you how many time her lab has gotten loose in the complex!

From what I understand the american staffordshire terrier is not as DA as the american pit bull terrier. But regadless both are seemingly "pit bull types" but awesome breeds to own. Diesal was right. Go to petfinder and look or dogs that do not show dog aggression. Also there are many stickys (permanent threads) that explain how to properly introduce two dogs and also if they don't get along in the long run how to crate and rotate =)
good luck! |

I personally wouldn't get either an APBT or an Am Staff while living at home. There are more people around which makes it more challenging to train and be consistant with the dog, plus it ups the chances of someone messing up and there being a poor outcome as a result. I waited until I was in a house with a yard that I completely owned before adding the responsibility of a dog (APBT) to the mix and it was the smartest thing I've done. I researched alot in the couple years prior to that to make sure I was as prepared as I could be and that was also very beneficial.
Typically the transition from living at home to buying your first home is not 'pet owning' friendly. Between having to rent, possibly deal with roomates, trying to find a place that allows any bully breeds, going to work/school, relationship changes, there are alot of challenges. Getting a dog is (and should be in my opinion) a life time comittment and that needs to be taken into consideration due to you wanting to add a dog to your life before you are set up on your own. Just not something I would recommend in general. |

i agree with hallil, but if you were to get one, you could possibly start by gettin a pup that has been around other dogs and gets along with them, but like others have said, be cautious about it, when i came to my moms house with my pup for the first time, she has corgis, there short and very stalky but dont let the females size fool you, she will tear a pup, cat, frog, squirrel apart..she is very agressive with other dogs at times, but of course she's gonna be agressive cause it was HER territory and there a was a dog in HER territory, so i'd take them to the park that was down the street so that way they both were out of there territories and they could maybe get used to each other and id throw the ball and such...but she still to this day is cautious and will snap at my pup...and shes not even a pit...shes a short corgi lol so maybe its not best for you to get a pit right now?

You'll still have some trouble renting with rotts, but they're not AS maligned these days, and it would drastically reduce the chances of winding uo with a dog that wants to eat the poodle.
With a bully breed, you have about a 50/50 chance the dog will want to kill the poodle...no matter how well you train and how well interactions go. If training and management are not 100% that further increases the chances of issues. With a rott, you take away the genetic DA, and are left with a big dog, with big teeth, whose behaviour towards the poodle would be based more on training and management than on an instinctive desire to fight other dogs. |

From what I understand the american staffordshire terrier "CAN BE" not as DA as the american pit bull terrier. There, I fixed that for you ![]() Now, as to the original topic... You still have A LOT of research to do on either breed before acquiring one. You sound quite young, and both of the breeds you are considering require a very knowledgeable owner. In addition to the dog aggression you might encounter in both breeds, there is also the issue of prey drive - small dogs can trigger that in larger breeds, even if they aren't DA. I would continue researching breeds, deciding which is right for YOU - and then acquire one when you're living on your own. |

Not sure if this is for real or if this is just another feeding of the trolls, in either case I will say my piece and leave it at that.
If this is legit and you are a young kid, I would strongly urge you to not acquire a dog of any sorts. Your posts are full of immaturity and nonsense. So by my assesment of who you are ( if you are not a troll which I strongly suspect you are ) you are not mentally equipt to care for another living creature at this point in your immature life. Owning any breed of dog is a large responsibilty, nevermind the dog in question being of the bully breeds. Why the desire for this breed ? What are your true intentions ? I strongly reccomend waiting til you are alot older and more mature before you get a dog. |
