Default I miss my dog!
I left for Hawaii back in January and had to leave my dog back in Cali due to having to have him quarantined and what not. I haven't experienced any island fever but i sure as hell miss my buddy. I get to go home on Friday for a few days and I want to bring him back with me, anyone know any loop holes i can squeeze through to get him here without having to wait for 4 months?

I know a guy who moved from hawaii and the planes wouldn't take his dogs. Said dogs couldn't handle the pressure or heat or something because of how their muzzles are

Hawaii has a strict quarentine length because they have never had rabies and as far as I can tell they wa.t to keep it that way. If you really want to have your dog with you you may as well put him thru quarentine unless you go back to cali more often then not.

Why does it have to be 4 months. Can't they just test for diseases.

I would say go through the quarantine correctly so you don't have issues with the officials down the road. It stinks, but better to do it the right way than to risk problems down the road.

True. the quarantine process is 4 months, they get a physical, then they wait for 4 months, then they get another physical and if they pass they are OK to come to the islands. I guess it takes so long because they could possibly have rabies incubating in their system is all i can think off, and by the time 4 months go by it will show? thats all i can think of.

It is brutal, the last time I considered it was years ago, and it was SIX months in quarentine. my dad lives there and i used to live there... when I have considered it I always thing that long with strangers would be traumatic. good luck!

ps, does anyone know what the quaurentine time is for cats to HI?

Then why is it such a big hassle for you to do? Why not just do it the right way and have the dog with you for the 4 months?

Ya... that's was kinda similar to what they did when I shipped that dog to Taiwan. You get rabies titres done, wait six months, then ship, but she did have to do one month quarentine once there at the university, but her owner got to go visit her everyday so it wasn't too bad. Now she is there with them and they are enjoying their life together.
