When you see people post on Craigslist about their bad experiences with flippers, could you get a screenshot and send it to me? I'm always trying to explain to people why it's bad to just give pets away for free and especially unfixed.
Will do.

formobilagsw 02-17-2011 03:05 AM

My husband took a screen shot of that ad and we added it to our website to show people why you shouldn't give dogs away for free.

And a side note...another reason to be cautious on CL:

I just dont understand if these people loved thier dogs soo much why would they rehome them anyway..if i was renting I wouldnt move to a place that wouldnt let me have a dog..I just dont get it..Hell I took a rotti/austrailian shepard mix I didnt want it ,but I take real good care of it like I do all my dogs, and he has turned out to be a outstanding gaurd dog if i am not home he wont let anyone out of thier car..But i had alot of people that wanted him but I didnt trust they could take care of him as well as I could even though at the time I didnt like him ,,very destructive puppy, chewed my internet up twice 45 bucks each time, chewed 2 water lines into I did the labor,,chewed my break lines into which I didnt find out till i tried to stop at a red light. But my point is i took him thierfore its my responsability to give him a quality of life that he deserves,,He is 4 yrs old now settled down and a damn fine dog, minds like a child ,when i call him he runs to me wide open he dont loaf, very smart ,great gaurd dog.And with the Australian shepard mixed in he is one hell of a athlete..I guess point is people just give up on them too damn easy!

I agree, seems like the majority don't try at all.If it ever came to the point of having to get rid of my dog,I'd do what needed to be done and put him down before I'd give him away to some stranger.

Scukonah 02-20-2011 11:39 PM

If they tried I am sure they could find a rescue, or no kill, or something and if you cant find anything, then either keep the damn thing, or put it down like chloesredboy2 said. I would never give my dog away to anyone. If it was the dog or my house.. looks like were sleeping outside together!

This craigslist post breaks my heart (for atlanta pit bull owners)

This lady has been posting forever on craigslist looking for a beautiful pitbull she thought she had placed in a good home only to find out to her horror she didn't. This is why I do not use craigslist and would never use craigslist to post a dog or cat or any living creature up for adoption on.

I'm posting this in hopes that maybe someone had seen this dog somewhere in atlanta since this is such a huge pit bull site. I feel for the lady but she should have known better but sometimes people put on such a good front that you never know until it's too late.

here's the ad: http://atlanta.craigslist.org/sat/pet/2130322105.html

I hope she finds her dog. She obviously seems to love it and is horrified as to what has happened.

A very expensive lesson.. at least for the heart. Never, ever give any living breathing thing to a complete stranger! It's sad that you can't trust people anymore, and God knows that I have gotten animals from people who didn't know me, but luckily, Bella's foster family did get vet references before the agreed to let us adopt her, which made me feel better about them, that they were looking out for her best interest.

I doubt they will ever find her, and I feel bad for them, but I bet they never let another animal go on CL. Sad how hindsight is ALWAYS 20/20!

In case it gets flagged:

PLEASE HELP!!! IM BEGGING!!
Hi, I am posting this in hopes that someone can give me some information. I posted my husbands dog on here back in september. She was about 9 months old at the time, blue merle Pitbull. She was family and i was willing to keep her as long as it took to find her a great home. We were rehoming her because we just didnt have the time anymore and i thought maybe she would be happier with someone else.(stupid i know) Well a man and woman wrote me and gave me this story of a wonderful home. They were so convincing that i didnt even ask for vet references and i gave her to them believing that she would be going to a perfect home for her. On November 6th they reposted her on here for sale/trade for a blue male pitbull. It broke my heart when i saw it and I just couldnt tell my husband, it was his dog and like his daughter, we just wanted what was best for her. I tried and tried to get in contact with them and even offered them money for her (even tho we gave her to them for free) but they just didnt respond. I have been so very worried about her since then and my husband has been asking about her alot lately and i finally told him the truth. We decided to post this ad in hopes that someone somewhere knows where she might be. If someone has her and doesnt want her anymore we would be more than glad to have her back. But at the same time if someone has her and loves her, We just want to know that she is ok. Please we are begging if anyone knows anything about her please let us know. I was so very very very foolish and just downright stupid for not taking more time and looking into the people that i gave her to more! we are more than aware of what happens everyday to unwanted pitbulls and we are just hoping and praying that nothing has happened to her and that she is ok. I have attached pictures of her below and I really hope someone has some good news about her.

Please do not write me with fake replies. We are very heartbroken over this and truely regret our decision to find her a new home, so please just save the smart remarks and mean comments.

Thanks for posting the full ad. I wouldn't think it'd get flagged but may ad's do if they involve a pit bull on craigslist.

She's been posting over and over and finally after seeing it enough I just couldn't stand by anymore and decided to post it on here in hopes that maybe someone has seen this dog. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/frown.png I doubt she will either but it's a hard lesson to learn. The fact that someone traded her for another dog makes me think it was for breeding purposes if she wasn't spayed. The worst would be for fighting but since she's a merle some stupid BYB may pass off the offspring as rare merle just for an extra buck.

I see this CONSTANTLY on the phx craigslist, I admit, I am a CL junkie, and I lost a cat and surf it often just hoping she shows up.

One lady was breeding blue pits. Supposedly amazing !! papered blue razors edge.

I wanted one, until I saw they were both shotty blues, that looked like mix blue pit and something else.

Lady wanted 800 DAMN DOLLARS for one! and the mom wasnt even a year yet!

I said no, and after the lady sold all the pups, I saw her selling the mother dog because she wasnt friendly enough.

I will keep an eye out. Both ABR and I work at low-cost vet clinics on 2 different sides of Atlanta so we see a lot of dogs every day. I am sure she will see this post as well and maybe if we get lucky this dog will come through one of our practices.

I work for an ER vet and I've been keeping an eye out for this dog as well.
I'm glad to see that you are taking notice! Thank you! I hope more people who work at vet clinics who own pit bulls see this as well.

Which clinic do you work at?

I try to warn everybody that contacts us about giving unwanted pets away for free and how some of these dog flippers are literally professionals at deceiving people.

I work for Wellpet Humane in Chamblee

Klavalala 09-03-2011 06:23 AM

I'm at an ER vet in Marietta.
CCAC often brings in injured animals and sometimes they bring in pitbulls that have been in dog fights or are injured. I've seen quite a few blue pits that have come in and several females that had trouble giving birth to a litter and the pups born are mostly blue and some are fawn colored. The mother of the pups obviously a poor example of the breed and has been bred many times. It's sad to see what's being done to the breed when I see them come in.

Yea, had one guy today bring in his 7 months APBT (beautiful dog). He had scraped up $50 to bring this dog in who had been lethargic and not wanting to eat for a week. It took a lot just for him to get that much money. Then mid-conversation, he said that things are rough for him and probably will be, until he is able to stud out the dog... Cute pup, but I know he is not working it or titling it. And he did not even know if he was an APBT or an AST (it was reg. with CKC as APBT but people have been telling him that it is an AST because it "looks more like a lab" which only meant he was long and lean instead of short and stocky...)

I politely explained to him that it was not a good idea and made some other quick buck suggestions to him. He seemed willing to listen, but hope he took something away from that conversation.
