I understand that she made a grave mistake, and perhaps was a little irresponsible with her dog, but I don't think there is any need to be so rude and demeaning towards her. Making sarcastic comments and rude remarks ins't going to get us anywhere. How about just giving her some advice and solutions for when/if she gets her dog back? I'm pretty sure she knows she made mistakes, and you guys don't need to confirm it for her.
And don't bother starting on me. In terms of advice, I am not quite sure what to say as I don';t know where you live, what the laws are etc. All I can say is I feel for you and hope you get your dogs back. |

Your dog got loose and your being fined for that. Pay the fine or get a lawyer.
Stop letting your dog outside unattended. Keep him on a leash when you have him outside. Problem solved. P.S. File a police report and confront the parents of the kids that are damaging your property - they should be paying for repairs. Set up a video camera for proof. |

Even though you screwed up big time, I don't get on these forums to be negative. There are enough people who do that already, as you can see. It sounds like the advice that some others have provided is pretty much what your options are. If you can, pay the fine, it's the easiest and surest way of getting him back. If you can't pay it, then you can try a lawyer, but they cost money too. At any rate, I just wanted to say good luck getting your "baby" back and I hope you update us with the status of the situation.

How do they deem a dog dangerous without proof except for a false allegation To the Op,..take the advice that has been given, no matter how blunt and whether you like it or not,.. its all true and hopefully you know it. Eventually you will have to pay one way or another,.. hopefully it's just out of pocket and not at the expense of your dogs life. Whether you get him back or not I hope you stick around and learn. Because if you love your dog and the breed as much as you say you do,.. eventually you'll get another one. The difference is you'll be more prepared, knowledgeable and willing not willing but Determined not to make the same mistakes again. |

The lesson to be learned here for everyone is that if your dog is declared a "dangerous or potentially dangerous dog," it is critical to keep your dog contained. For your dog's sake, safety's sake, and the sake of your wallet.
It's pretty hard to defend your dog from accusations when your dog is off-property and out of sight. If it were me, I would attend the court hearing with an attorney if I could afford one and without one if I couldn't. I would dress professionally and be polite. I would explain what steps I had taken to assure that my dog was never at large again, I would have any witnesses I could to attest to the temperament of my dog, and I would try. But hindsight is always so clear... Keep ALL dogs contained, but when the dangerous dog label is involved, don't make ANY mistakes. If you can't keep your "dangerous or potentially dangerous dog" from running at large, you probably shouldn't have one. |

I'm afraid
"I let my dog out in the yard by herself even though I KNEW there was a hole in the fence and sure enough, she got out, and then I couldn't be bothered to go after her so I waited for ya'll to catch her and bring her back...for the umteenth time"... Is probably not gonna hold up to well in court. Himself, herself, itself...whatever. Irrelevant. |
