Conformation Flaws

I'm trying to get a better understanding of conformation just because I find it interesting and I would like to be able to appreciate a great dog when I see one. J

I've been TRYING to stack Sweetie. Below is my ATTEMPT from last night. I wish her head was forward but at least I managed to get her hocks perpendicular.

I have to laugh at myself...until I started trying to understand confirmation I THOUGHT hocks were their thigh/butt muscles! http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif So, at least I've learned that much! http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/biggrin.png

Ok, so using Sweetie as an example…she’s just a mutt and I do realize her docked tail is a disqualification but what about her tail set? Angulation? Stifle? We both have thick skin so point out what you see.

She actually looks very good seeing that her head is not being controlled by a handler.

Thanks. I managed to get her set, step back, and just before I could focus and snap the pic she turned her head.

lips arent tight.. thats about the only thing i dont like on her (i have a thing against lips like that, so dont mind me lol)

HoqCBYMl 01-25-2011 09:58 PM

No problem! We all have our likes and dislikes. I actually love her lips because when she barks she sucks them up and it's pretty cute. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png

OH MY GAWD... her docked tail combined with cropped ears is the cutest darn thing I've ever seen! lol sorry... I have a thing for docked tails, even though it's not proper on the breed http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png

She actually has decent conformation, and you did a spectacular job stacking her and getting a photo from the correct angle!

Me too! I think their butts are so cute with a little nubbin! http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif

Wow, thank you very much for the compliment. I'm enjoying learning about conformation. Thanks for your input.

She looks pretty good. Nice natural stack. I would say she could use more muscle in rear, to balance out the front. I think her lips may look loose becasue she lacks underjaw, which is a common fault in a lot of UKC dogs.

Thanks Beth! What exercise would you recommend to build her muscles? Right now we walk a few mile most days of the week and play fetch after our walks so she gets some good run time in.

Oh, and I should add...she just turned 2 years.

Silas drools and it is gross. Zoey has saggy lips and they get caught in her teeth, which makes me laugh.

I know nothing about conformation, but she does look nice and healthy. And I agree, I love a nubby tail.

Very impressive. I can only add that maybe a bit more definition all around, and maybe more mass on her back side.

Before I took any interest in conformation I just had a funny feeling her lips were special! http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif

I think Zoey and Sweetie can do pretty much anything and we'll find humor in it. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/biggrin.png My husband is always teasing me..."aw, look at the way she JUST lays there...isn't she cute?!" He's such a butt some times. LOL

Thanks Chevy http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png

I'm going to look into getting a spring pole.
