I feel your pain.

On days like that, I make myself a few stiff drinks, for the dog's benefit.http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/biggrin.png
a few? try....i drowned my sorrows in a bottle of wine last night, watching Monster's Inc. I'm a troubled soul, LOL.

Boyfriend has off today, he's gonna take Peyton for a walk combined with some short periods of jogging (he'll be a year in March, so I'm hoping a tiny bit of jogging now won't be too harsh on him) so hopefully that helps. I also reallyy need to build a flirt pole soon too, I think that will help ALOT.

Thanks for the kind words guys. It's nice to know others have the same problems as I do! hehe.

just make sure you save that pic, youll be able to look back at it and laugh someday. lol...trust me

Man, can I relate, i used to get drunk sometimes because i was young and it was fun, now it's almost always because it's that or cry and lock luigi in the closet for 24 hours. Last night I was in tears telling my husband that we will never be able to have children if we can't get him to stop getting mouthy when he's in crazy zoomie mode. thankfully, my husband is used to my hysterics and calmly reminded me that he is a year old and has been getting hardly any exercise because of the weather and our own laziness. He will be starting a new class soon and I also want to build or buy a flirt pole as we have no yard and walking around the neighborhood just isn't cutting it. I have 2 torn ligaments in my ankle, and I had no way of knowing that would happen right after I adopted a high energy puppy, but it did, and we have to find a different energy outlet... everything is a work in progress, and until then red wine supposedly has some health benefits.

Plus, I notice you have a dog bed that looks to still contain stuffing in that picture, so Peyton's ahead of Luigi there even 3 months younger.

Pyuvjzwf 01-13-2011 07:42 PM

I can soooo relate. I think they must be just as susceptible to cabin fever as we are. I've had a few of those kind of crazy days with Pooh since its been cold outside. I've just assumed he's going crazy because he's not getting as much time outside or something. We've lost mail, shoes, grandson's toys, and the stuffing in his latest bed over the last month or so. We start a new class soon too, so I'm hoping that will help...even though the actual "training" isn't all that great at Petsmart...at least it gives us more to do.

If you lived near by we could be troubled together. There is nothing like an animated movie and some wine. I teach delinquents - literally- and I do that about once a week. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif

Go on Ebay there are 6 ft lounge whips for horses (I'm sure you already know that with the thoroughbreds and all http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/redface.png but maybe not?) Anywho - they were only $12 and we've had ours 6 mos at least and it looks new. I can't tell you how it has saved my sanity. I haven't had a day like that in quite a while. Also, do you have stairs? My bf stands at the top and I stand at the bottom and we play "pickle in the middle" and do ob at the same time. Avi is done for in about 20 min and relaxed all night. I don't know if you were looking for hugs or ideas but theres a bit of ideas and heres a bit of hugs xoxoxoxo

Blue will get a hold of things and my wife gets furious, lol. He will chew anything up he can, even a beer or coke can. He is only 12 months old and I know he just wants to chew on something but no way I would leave him out while I'm gone. He does great when we are around but will still test me. He will grab the remote and look at me, lol. I tell him firmly no and he drops it slowly and walks off but he is definitely mischievous. Anytime he is not in eye sight my wife will say "where is Blue" because he just looks around for stuff.

We let him out one day and looked outside to find this. Check out the umbrella!

If you're talking about my Lily, do you mean:
http://i.imgur.com/QxoM5.jpg http://i.imgur.com/vaF23.jpg

BTW- all the toys/objects on the floor were once on a table. She had a knack for jumping on the dining room table, knocking everything off and destroying it.
Lily was the queen of relapses. She just didn't care. You wouldn't be gone 10 seconds and she'd destroy something. It took her almost 7 months to housetrain, and even then she had a couple accidents for the following months.
Some dogs just don't get it. It finally clicked somehow for her, but she's still crated when I can't watch her, 100% of the time. She'll still destroy things if I'm not there to stop her, or eat bad things, which is even worse.
I spent close to 6 months regretting everything about her. But I toughed it out, and I'm glad I did. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png

I've spent 9 months feeling like that, but i'd just about die before i'd give him up. i think my puppy fever has been cured for life by this boy, though.

expomeHattePe 01-13-2011 09:38 PM

I totally get what you are saying... Thank Goodness that Darla is ok with her crate, however....
there was a series of days/weeks/possibly a month where no matter how often she was let out I would come home to find a puppy with poop all over the crate and her... she would poop and then like play in it!

I seriously consisdered giving her back like 5 times a day at first. It was really hard! Now that she is finally maturing it is all worth it... but there are still days I could kill her.

I think it's cause I have Bubba and he was just always so easy... and Darla is so not easy!

I laughed when I saw the umbrella... that sucks!

My dogs crate is under the stairs and if I make the mistake of putting the crate close enough to where she can reach the stairs she will eat them.

The is a small area where she has nawed on them! I am so careful now!

Forgot about this- a short narrative describing life with a puppy. I posted this in another thread, but just in case you didn't read it and want to: Welcome to Google Docs

OH THANK GOD FOR THIS THREAD!!! Without a place like this to share experiences you think you're the only one going through this crap! I got Max at a shelter so his age is approximately 10 months. It's hard to remember that this 42 lb. walking muscle is a puppy! But then he'll sit next to me on the couch (yeah, he sleeps on my bed too, so sue me), put his head in my lap and go to sleep. Then wake up and go chew on the moulding of the stairway!!

I think all winter is a relapse day with Goren haha, I have not gotten to walk him but maybe 2-3 times since Nov. and he is showing it, he has gotten to do the flirt pole a bit but no much and man o man, he is going through "cabin fever" BAD...I did bring him in yesterday and work his brain a bit, I started the beginnings of the "Shame" command and he was kinda getting it but that one is ganna take more than 1 day. I will say his OB is horrid atm, I am going to have to put him in a bootcamp after the weather finally turns >.<

RogHammon 01-18-2011 09:34 PM

We're having one of these days. All he wants to do is play but its pouring rain and slush outside right now. He slept for 11 hours and all he has is energy. I feel so bad but he has really tender paws (i just rescued him and he was at a shelter in queens, the salt from the sidewalks has really torn up his paws) and when I tried to take him out he started bleeding. Hes finally laying down and napping now but I feel bad. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/frown.png

Progniusis 12-01-2011 11:12 PM

Ever just...had a "relapse" day with your dogs?

Today, was just....one of those days. Peyton is a 9 month old apbt mix, who we do not crate (for those of you who don't know why, its just...a long list of issues and to keep it short, its to save his sanity and mine) and we leave loose around the house while we are out of the house. My boyfriend has started his internship, and works fairly long hours but I only work 5 hours Mon-Fri. Peyton is home alone from 10am till 3pm everyday except weekends usually. Sometimes he's home alone in the evenings, while we go run errands or dinner etc.

Today, I come home to find yesterday's mail that was left on the kitchen table, on the floor...in the living room, SHRED to pieces. Peyton also has had a recent obsession with shoes and has eaten the laces out of a few pair of sperrys and ate the heel out of my boyfriend's running shoes. Not sure if it's bc those types of shoes get rather sweaty/stinky, but who knows.

I decide to take Peyton for a walk at our local people park, for a change of scenery. He was RIDICULOUS. I've had an easier time controlling hot blooded, wild Thoroughbreds straight off the racetrack than I did with Peyton today. Running and yanking and dragging me and when he would get a correctipon, he'd rear up like a horse and shake his body and ugh OMG. I was just...ready to let him go, and run away. I was so angry.

I just felt like sitting down and crying. I was so frustrated. and I know its all my fault, it really is. The weather has been shitty and cold and he hasn't been getting nearly enough exercise, and I know this is why he's releasing his energy outlets elsewhere, and nearly uncontrollable on walks. I also haven't had any extra money to put him into another OB class which he really needs to be in. I feel like I'm somewhat stuck with training him new things because...I don't know how to teach him anything else that I want to do with him. I just want to bang my head against a wall, I feel terrible.

I'm going to really try to motivate myself to walk him longer everyday, and maybe twice a day if I can REALLY motivate myself to get up in the mornings and help him release some more energy before we go to work. I'm also going to try and make sure he has a Kong every single day before we leave for work, and maybe one of those toys that dispenses kibble as he plays with it.

Anyone else feel like this sometimes? It's just...disheartening when you feel like you've gone backwards in training and its all your fault. *sigh* I'm a big crybaby I know but, sometimes I just can't help it. Poor puppy...I got so frustrated with him on our walk, and I feel so bad that I did. He's currently passed out on the couch. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/frown.png
