Grimm is a West German show line boy, and his drive is medi-ochre. He isn't "go go go" all day, but he enjoys DOING things (hiking, walks, playing with Gidget in the backyard, etc.) but he doesn't HAVE to be doing something. He's content sleeping in front of the fireplace and just lounging around, too. He is currently 23 months old (birthday on Jan. 7th,) and when he turned 13 mths or so, he completely mellowed out and outgrew puppydom.

He is such a well-mannered boy, but he came from well-mannered and even-tempered parents, too. He has some minor conformation flaws which is why we are neutering him in January (Happy Birthday, Grimm!) but other than that (which is breeding-specific) he is a great boy.

If you're looking for a dog that doesn't HAVE to work but still likes to do things and isn't go-go-go all the time, look at well-bred West German show line dogs.

I know they get all their dogs tested, and anything that won't pass isn't used for breeding. They also won't use anything for breeding that dosen't have a sound mind either.
They recently purchased a couple Papillion from a breeder back east. Come to find out the females hips were bad, so they spayed her. Another male they purchased from the same breeder had HORRIBLE teeth and wasn't house broken at 5 years of age. Even tho he's got a Championship (in something???) they won't breed him.

Just so you know, I wasn't saying that sarcastically or anything, it was more of a musing that I was thinking when I replied. lol I meant to look them up in OFA but just haven't had time. They have some nice West German working bred dogs. Having 2 breeds breeding kinda makes me leary but it all depends on the situation and the people. I can tell you that I really like their dogs and that agility isn't easy with a GSD. I'm thinking of contact them cause I like their lines and the looks. Never hurts to have one more contact in dogs!

In breeding temperament is the most important in my book!!

OT- Papillions are CUTE and fun little dogs, there are a TON of them in my OB club and they are smart.....scary smart.

They are very careful keeping everyone seperate that needs to be seperate, but still getting plenty of socialization. They have crates and kennels, and rooms, etc.
