Maybe not to an outside dog who has a nice dog house filled with straw. But to an inside dog, 33 is probably pretty darn cold!
As for how to handle it, get her outside & keep her moving. Don't just let her stand there & shiver. If you keep her moving (preferably jogging or running) around, her internal furance will get stoked & keep her warm. ![]() Good luck! ![]() |

Thanks! I like the pic too.
![]() BTW FWIW, that is what I used to do when I would go out walking. I am from Ohio where temps can be well below 33 with wind chill (I remember several times the high would be zero, not counting the wind chill! Brrrr!). When I would go out to walk I usually wore a light long john shirt, tee shirt over that & a medium weight jacket over that with light long john pants & jeans & tennis shoes, even in snow. I would shiver uncontrollably at first, but once I got a few blocks under my belt, my furnace would kick on & I would have to remove my jacket. If I didn't, I would actually start heavily sweating! I assume the same would follow for dog. (excercise = warmth) ![]() |

It's 20 here in NJ this morning. I took Gus out to pee this morning and he was most definitely not liking the cold. He shivered as he did his business and then bolted for the back door as soon as he was done. He looked back at me as I walked to the door as if to say "Come on already! It's cold out here!"
Right now I'm sitting on the couch with a blanket over my lap. He's on the floor under my feet, cozily tented under the blanket. I really need to finish the sweater I've been knitting for him. |

It's 28 here in Old Town FL, it was 23 the other day.
My crestie (who is technically a powder puff but shaved like a hairless) sleeps with a heat pad on his bed, and likes to sit *right* in front of the space heater... However, he doesn't mind the cold outside one bit. He doesn't even seem to notice. I started out with him wearing a sweater when I took him out, he'd just do his business and be ready to go in. I took him out one night in a hurry and didn't put his sweater on...took me 10 minutes to talk him back inside...he was running around like a squirrel on crack. He apparently LIKES being naked and cold. :P But he keeps himself moving...at near light speed. lol |

It was 9 out when I got up this morning. Maybe 10 when I let the dogs out. The only one who ever hesitates is Marsha, but I'll just say her name in a exasperated voice and she goes out. They all pee and poop as fast as they can, that's for dang sure! I left my coat at my mom's house yesterday when I went home, since it was over 50. I was very sad about that this morning as I walked around with the dogs.
Its 13 out now, so its warming up, lol! |

Its freezing in South Florida today! ![]() You can do short quick walks but don't stay out too long. We have been urged to keep ourselves bundled and stay indoors if at all possible and our pets in. Do to the wind chill issues (it feels a lot colder than it is). Hypothermia and Frostbite is a real concern right now. There are lots of activies you can do indoors. Play catch the tennis ball. Do you have a laser light? As long as your dog doesn't get obsessive over that its a good way to wear your dog out. Maybe play a treasure hunt. Scatter your dogs food around your home and let the dog track it out. Work on some obedience, you know exercise the mind. |

With the wind chill, it feels like it's in the negatives here. My friend just got home, and all the roads are still covered in ice.
Didn't stop the dogs though. As soon as I opened the door, they bolted outside, and I watched them from the kitchen window while I drank some coffee. They were zoomie-ing all over the place playing in the snow for half an hour. |

I let my indoor dogs out last night & it was 17 with the wind chill. But you couldn't tell it. They were out there taking their sweet time playing "scratch & sniff" (seperately one at a time) all over the yard like it was 80 degrees on a weekend. I was the one shivering on the porch telling them "hurry up!" lol.

I think it's 29 here today... There's absolutely NO heat on inside of any of the school buildings x.x We're all freezing our asses off. How to they expect us to learn if we can't even stay awake because we're trying to bundle up and keep warm lmao. [They keep the air conditioning on to about the same temp. in the spring, too... freezing!]

I always have to laugh at Southern's who can't handle the cold :P
The other night it was -7 out with the wind chill. I'm sure we've gotten to at least -10 during the night. -30 is not unheard of here in Michigan, especially with the wind. As for your doggy, they'll be okay. Dogs can adapt easily, I don't see much issues. |
