This was on AOL's homepage today.. and just the tilt and tone of the article pissed me off. I left a comment.. maybe you can find it.

I actually enjoyed the articles. I'd rather not read the comments because I already know there will be pit bull haters posting comments about the breed.
I thought the article was well written with some tongue-in-cheek lines trying to show people that just because a pit bull is "rescued," it doesn't mean it came from a fighting ring, and it also addressed the stigma people have against shelter dogs. |

There was even only 1 negative comment that I came across. There were a bunch of bleeding hearts 'save them all' people, and some people that should be educated on the possibility of DA and AA, but the article itself and the tone of the majority of the comments was rather positive surprisingly.
So I guess, maybe your problem is that it might make people run out and get a 'pit bull' without researching, but I think that will happen regardless of whether this article is written or not. |

What was it about the article that upset you? I thought it was a well written article and it was positive. I liked this article a lot. Maybe I missed something but I don't get what the problem is.
Unless you are one of those that does not want any kind of media attention at all to the breed, negative or positive. In that case I guess I can see why that would upset you. But I think with all the negative media attenion out there on the breed, there needs to be atleast a little positive attention. They are an unpopular popular breed so regardless they are going to be in the media, might as well be a positive article. |

ok.. lol. well I'm in a bad mood anyway..
![]() Call it like it is. She's no "bull terrier mix." She's a Pit Bull mix, and quite typical of one. I realize they later ID her as a pit bull.. but why try and hide it? And why do these articles always have a negative tilt to them? "We know what you're thinking, but despite her strong build, Lily wasn't rescued from a dog fighting ring. Nor is she the least bit aggressive." No... you DON'T know what I'm thinking.. but now that you mention it... I guess most "bull terrier mixes" come into the shelter from dog fighting rings and because they're aggressive. "in stark contrast to her breed's tough-guy stereotype" If the writer really cared, perhaps they would stop playing to the stereotype.. and it might go away. Yeah, I can see where it could be a good article.. but why can't it just be "rescued pit bull," not "rescued pit bull that wasn't from a fighter and wasn't aggressive?" That was what I was picking up on. Since no one else sees it.... I'm going to head out and get some chocolate, then. ![]() |

"We know what you're thinking, but despite her strong build, Lily wasn't rescued from a dog fighting ring."
That's the only thing that really stood out to me... Because a dog has a strong build, it's automatically a 'fighting dog'? But the only things on these articles that really piss me off are the ignorant comments. |

LOL bull terrier mix gets your goat? I call them that all the time since strangely enough, they are a mix of bulldog and terrier! Sounds to me like getting hung up over semantics. I thought it was quite good of them in the context they used it to include all bull terrier derivatives in their explanation as anything of a bull and terrier origin can face prejudice.

I took it as more to educate that just because she has a strong build does not mean she came from a fighting background. Most uneducated people think that larger built means bred for fighting they do not realize the most dogs used for matching are going to be smaller. look at some in the Bully world they think these overweight poorly bred Hippos are the toughest dogs in the world I read it on a site cant remeber which one at this moment but it had a Blue Hippo low rider could not run across the yard and it talking about the dog it was refereed to as "ONE TOUGH BAD ASS MOTHER FUCKER" it was in a add selling puppies

I was all set to read an article that would push my buttons and leave me in a bad mood : ) I completely disagree with your dissection of the article. Writers use clever lines, cliche's and wordy prose to make an article more than an IKEA assembly instructions manual.... perhaps you were just having a bad day.......
