Dogs are generally lactose intolerant which can cause an upset tummy if eating dairy products... but small amounts shouldn't be too bothersome.
And sometimes when we have to give our dogs medicine like dewormer tabs er something we'll wrap it in turkey lunch meat and haven't had any problems. The only time we had any issues with that was when we gave a lil too much which upset our pooches tummies and they had the nastiest farts. I'm guessing way too much will give them diarrhea so I'd avoid that. ---------- Post added at 02:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:57 PM ---------- If he has diarrhea from it you can give him peptobismal or plain canned pumpkin. As for doses I'm not sure. Someone on here (preferably with some sort of vet. degree) may be able to give you some dosages but usually we can just call our vet., tell them the situation and how much our dog weighs, and they'll let us know how much pepto is ok to give. |

Can't get mad at a dog for being a dog. Scold yourself for leaving it were he could get a hold of it.
I know my dogs no better then to get things off the counter, etc but if I leave the stuff their I'm not going to SCOLD them for eating it....I may tell them NO! if I see them going after it but if I don't realize until after the fact I just chalk it up to another dog lesson learned. |

I usually just yell at him like a no ![]() You could teach him the command "leave it", that way, if you drop something on the floor, you can say "leave it", and hopefully, he will not gobble it down, or at least hesitate long enough for you to grab it. Bella knows "leave it" very well, but Mollie didn't go through the Obedience training that Bella went through, so she isn't as good at leaving it. It is up to you to teach the dog leave it, but screaming at the dog, isn't the way to go. ![]() The sandwich won't hurt the dog, neither will the carrots. However, I wouldn't give him sandwiches as a regular snack, or you may find that he will start to prefer the taste of that over his kibble. I give mine the last bite of sandwiches every now and then, but I don't eat a lot of sandwiches, so that's probably less than once a week. Bella loves carrot sticks, but Mollie won't eat them. |

I think I got him to understand I mean business with a raised voice. I was wrong. I should have never grabbed his snout like that. He's a pretty good boy. Doesn't ruin too many things now but some underwear and still gets skiddish around some people especially if there is a lot of people around. I don't know what the previous owners did to make him to not trust people

I'm pretty sure you mean you just held his mouth shut, right? We've done this to our dogs in the past when they chose to get mouthy with us.... doesn't hurt them at all. But I wouldn't recommend it with a dog that doesn't trust people because of previous owners, it may make your dog not trust you.
It's ok to make loud noises (not yelling) .... an example would be.... You see your dog is sniffing towards food you have on the table, he is about to snatch it and you give a firm, loud 'ah ah' to redirect his attention that he has just been caught. This will only startle him for a few seconds long enough to not get the food you have on the table as opposed to him tucking his tail, hiding, being fearful, etc. because of yelling that he doesn't understand. |

Also...if you leave tasty food out within a dog's reach and you aren't immediately there to say "drop it", "leave it" or remove it from the dog...then it's a fair cop. If you need to scold someone scold yourself. |

I don't know about the "tasty" part, but I think the rest of the sentence would be improved with some punctuation.
![]() If I'm looking at it right, he's saying he's gotten the dog to stop destroying things, himself, meaning Flatbedder accomplished that. And now he needs to teach the dog to not eat what isn't his. ![]() |
