Default He said what??
OK, so I took Patches to my husband's work today to get some socialization work done. One of the oil bay guys looked at Patches for a while then asked me if I wanted to breed her to his Boxer! I pretended not to hear him, but my husband looked at him like he was crazy & said to him "why would I want to go & ruin a good dog like that?" His employee asked what he meant & I explained that mutts are a dime a dozen in the shelter. I hope we didn't hurt his feelings - he didn't say anything to us the rest of the time I was there, but really??? Breed an APBT to a Boxer????

(P.S. - In case anyone doesn't know, if there is no specific organization in your area to socialize your pup, providing you get the manager's permission, garages are great places to go! They usually have benches out front of the business you can set at. Lots of people of all types coming in & out, all kind of different smells & all kinds of noises from the mudane to loud & obnoxious & the company usually doesn't mind dogs as long as you keep them outside & they don't scare anyone. The only danger is to make sure you keep them away from antifreeze & make sure to keep them on a short leash so they don't get run over!)

Blessings ...

I agree with you 100%, I used to work in a service dept and brought all my pups in to get them socialized. Its the quickest, easiest way to get it done.

That's actually a really common mutt to breed.

2 of my friends have pit/boxer mixes from the same litter. A female from their litter is now pumping out puppies because she's a "pretty dog".

And then a girl I work with has a pit/boxer mix. Another girl who works there offered her a couple hundred bucks if she bred her dog and gave her a pup. I talked her out of it when I explained the cost and complications of breeding.

People are dumb.

I have heard of APBT x Boxer mixes before, but I have never had someone ask me to purposely breed a Boxer to one of my dogs! I was shocked. It would have been the same if he would have asked me to breed her to his Cocker Spaniel or something. lol.

EDIT: I decided to lok the cross up for SNG. I guess I will have to apologize to him next time I see him - the APBT x Boxer cross is actually a recognized "breed!"

I guess I am the one with egg on my face on that one! I still will not breed any of my dogs with anything other than a purebred APBT though!

I always bring Veronica with me when I get my car serviced. I've been to 2 different dealerships; and always asked in advance if dogs were allowed in the waiting room and both said yes.

One place was really dog friendly and everyone who worked there kept wanting to give her treats.

I wish everyone were as considerate as you are. Back when I was working with my husband we've had bay men almost get bit by dogs customers left in their cars & had customers refuse to let the bay men drive the car into the bay b/c they had dogs with them. One insisted his dogs were "K-9s" (they were a pack of chihuahuas!) & another wanted to sue us for damages THEY did when they dinged their car up pulling it in b/c they refused to let the bay man do it! Then of course we also had people just straight up walked in with dogs without asking anyone anything - which peeved me b/c that is illegal, not to mention it scared some customers half to death!

It's so nice to know there are people like you out there Jazzy. You are a breath of fresh air & I am sure that the people you do business with appreciate your consideration too!

Blessings ...

Yep. But this "breed" - American Boxer Bull or whatever they call it - was actually recognized by some kennel clubs!

"kennel clubs" like that are not really what people think they are. I could start a kennel club tomorrow. Those clubs are not "proven", they are just mutt clubs charging cash for a piece of paper, if you get that much. Any Kennel club that registers mixes or designer dogs is trash.

MSAcer: This is true!

Boogieman: I try to be as tactful as I can, but my husband has no such reserve. That comment was pretty tame compared to some other things has has said while "educating" the knotheads out there! I remember one time we were at a flea market & I was looking at some $800 RE dogs a guy had for sale (I always go look at all the pets). The breeder & I began talking & he began bragging on his dogs like most of us do - we're all proud of our dogs. I guess my husband did not like the progression of the conversation b/c he just loudly announced "I wouldn't pay $800 for one of those mixed bred sh!t-bulls" & walked off. Needless to say, that little comment dispersed the crowd of potential buyers milling around & left me red-faced & the breeder quite angry!

Blessings ...

He sounds like my boyfriend. Things like that are the reason why I can't take him anywhere.
