Also, I don't recall seeing an actual APBT in that clip.

Bleck. I was not impressed.

Neither was Lucy. As soon as she heard "pit bull" she looked at the screen and watched it to the end, and then at the end gave me a WTF look.http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif I have to say I agree.

That being said, I usually only watch Dogs 101 on mute so I can ooh and ahh over the puppies (LOVED the Saint Bernard and Mastiff ones, best puppy footage).

I did not get that impression.I got more of the impression that they were stressing it takes the ''right owner'' and the ''right training'' to own the breed and irresponsible owners,one's not committed to the breed's needs or beginners need not apply.http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/biggrin.png

I DO think it could have been ''worded better'',and that they needed to show a more neutral public impression rather than focusing on ''the image problem''/debunking the ''locking jaw'' myth. They needed to show the dogs modern positive aptitudes like SAR,therapy dogs,drug sniffing/police K9s and their athletic prowess at weight pulling,agility,and other dog sports.
They also needed to honor that the dogs may have DA but are not supposed to be human aggressive.

I think over all it could have been better orchestrated,more factual and less of an attempt to rework the breed image.

I don't really think they did them an injustice. They really only said the things that we, responsible owners, already know. I feel like they gave a positive over view, while cautioning new owners, similar to all of us here.


I like that they dispelled the locking jaw rumor.

wack they should of just left it at "its how you raise them" and "they can snap" made people would want them less. Give these dogs back to responsible owners. They should of came here to get there information. That show just made people feel more sorry for the pitbull.

Yes, they said they can snap, and there were other things on there that they said that seemed more like they were feeding more crap to people. Yay, they said the dogs aren't for everyone, and they did say a few positive things, but all in all, they weren't really all that accurate. I've seen the show with other breeds. They could have done better.

Then they went on to say they are not born DA, they're sweet loving dogs and it's how they're raised that has to do with it.

WHY did they let these random doggy world people tell you about breeds they obviously don't know shit about?

Why are APBTs aggressive sometimes? I own one and am curious. I am still learning about them and Ive noticed alot of people say its not about how they were raised so please educate me further. What is it that makes these awesome gentle giants aggressive towards people?

Right! I want to know where they get these "experts" from. I suspect they are people discredited in their professions who can't find any other work.

If it makes anyone feel any better I have watched a lot of Dogs 101 on other breeds I am familiar with and they did the same bad job on those that they did on the APBT.

I think it has something to do with their brains growing until it's too big for their skull, which then drives them to snap. JUST KIDDING.

Any unprovoked human aggression is a fault. Usually the result of bad breeding/bad genetics.

A dog that is human aggression is a dog that should not be left alive.

However, when we mention aggression in this breed, we usually mean Dog aggression, which is extremely common, and the dog should not be put to sleep because of it. Dog aggression is common, because of what the breed was bred to do, dog on dog combat. It's as natural as a hound wanting to go after a coon.

Human and Dog Aggression are world's apart, so, if your dog attacks another dog, it does not mean your family or friends are in danger.
