Default Need help trying to convince my GF
to come with me to take atleast 2 of our dogs to training classes. I want them to get their CGC and have them work on their socialization but she is not convinced. Granted the classes are an hour away, but I think the pros out weight the cons

What is her reason for not wanting them to get training?

I would start by taking the one by yourself, train it and let her see the results, that is how I got my fiance to start working with Goren, he thought I was nuts taking him to classes when he knew commands, but its night and day how much better he is now, he is almost ready for his CGC and my fiance now actually helps me...he is one of those (I don't like giving them treats) people so he won't do the classes but he helps me at home even with treats and he even taught Goren to catch treats...I would not push her to much because then she would not be up beat in the class and the dog would learn nothing and her and the dog would be even more frustrated.

I agree, go to the classes on your own. Besides, dogs tend to do better with one person directing them than 2 people (not to say that your dog will only obey you). It is not important that she go with you. But try working on explaining to her that getting him is CGC will not only look better for him and the breed, but will also help in the future as far as renting an apartment, homeowner's liability insurance, etc.

are they your dogs alone or jointly owned dogs?

how much does she currently do with them?

i would say youtube some videos of dogs that have been trained and have CGC and show her how awesome those dogs behave.
also you can google some facts of dogs with CGC and training apposed to dogs that have no training. maybe showing her facts will help her. also maybe ask her to come to one training session with you maybe she will see how it can be fun

awww sucks, i am sorry to hear that. well, i would say take them one at a time (or use what you learn on one dog with all the dogs). it would greatly benefit your dogs good luck to you

Man, I wish I knew more guys like you! I'd fall over if my BF asked me to go to training with him. That's one of the reasons we might break up, he is not involved with the dogs (not that he doesn't like them, but it's all on his terms) and gets jealous

You may only be able to take one dog for now; maybe once she sees the results, she'll be more into training?

My dogs ARE my life. I'm going to school for them, I volunteer with Lily, I train for Lily, I sit here and research for them, I spend hundreds of dollars a month on them, I don't go on vacation for them, hell I don't even know the last time I went out for more than 4 hours!
Some people are dog people and some people.... well.... aren't. And unfortunately your GF is not a dog person and never will be. Best not to try to push it, because she's never going to get it. I drove an hour to and from our one training class for 16 weeks. Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do.

Ha, you sound just like me. Can't remember the last time I went on vacation.. I hate leaving because all I do is worry about my animals.

I agree about not pushing it though. My BF isn't really an animal person. He tolerates them, but he'd be perfectly fine without any in the house, whereas I would probably end up killing myself (or him) if I had no pets around LOL.

See, I don't get why people want to try to make a relationship with other people who don't have the same priorities and values. M husband wasn't a dog person when we met. He hadn't evne had a pet anything...ever. But my pets really liked him and after a few weeks he was walking my dog while I was at work and he was bored and thought the dog might want to get out of the house, too. I knew it would work out fom there and now he is as much of a dog person as I am.

For passionate pet people you have to find someone who is right there with you or it will cause strife.

yay someone like me! i don't go anywhere I can't take Peanut. Vacations have to involve Peanut or we don't go. If I have to go to the store it better not take more then 2 hours or I am ready to go home. Also I am a homemaker so that I don't have to be away from Peanut.

I agree with Elliehanna. If she doesn't become more interested with the results of the first trained dog...well...you might have to make a personal decision.
