my best friend lives on a military base, that has banned pitbulls or anything resembling pitbulls, well shes only living on base until there EAS in a couple months, but housing is demanding a blood test on him from her vet, any ideas of how to get around this, theres no since in her getting rid of her dog if there only going to be there a few more months.

as far as I know, the APBT is not on those tests. Also, they are quite inaccurate, so it may even come out as some random mutt.

they could also look for a temporary foster home, and pay all the dogs expenses.

Bloodtests are usually really inaccurate, and the ABPT isn't even in most bloodtests. So, actually to your friend's advantage, a blood test will probably give you wrong results which may workout for the better.

I'd put the dog in a private kennel (if there is no suitable foster home); I know that it's expensive and stressy, but it beats losing the dog due to an impound ...

thatd be nice, but we are military we make less than 4 bucks an hour. kennels in a military town run you 17 to 20 bucks a day.

Have them contact local pit bull rescues. Seeing as they're military, some rescues may be willing to work out a temporary foster home, especially if the dogs are UTD on everything, fixed, and the owners can provide food. See if your friends can also offer the rescue a donation once they can get their dogs back.

As mentioned, the blood test may very well come out in their favor as neither "APBT" nor "pit bull" are included.

In the meantime, there are several military foster organizations around the U.S. Use google to search for them and see what they can do.

I'm always open to a brief "visit" to my house, but I'm usually so far away from people.

About those military foster programs, I actually looked into them when I went to Iraq a few years ago and had no one to watch the dog I had at the time. None of them will accept any bully breeds, or even mastiff breeds, and some are even more restrictive than that. That was in 2007, though, so things may have changed, but I doubt it. My dog ended up just staying with the family of another soldier I deployed with.

The Marines and the Army both has banned them on bases, I think the Air Force may have as well. Now the bases are starting to enact it, though. I'm glad I'm just Army National Guard, I don't have to worry about living on post, or even going to one all that often anymore, unless I deploy again.

yea its stupid, we were asked to move out because of our dogs, which we did because he was getting out soon, but my friend cant exactly do that. the MC didnt inforce it until a little girl got killed last year on base, i dont think they would have ever made a big deal about it. they did allow people to grandfather there dogs in but the requirements were unreal and expensive.

i feel if you can take the time to fight for your country you should atleast at min be allowed to have the dog you want!

&&& SENSE he is this girls main type of security since her husband is going to be deploying ! && they're having a baby right before he deploys so she needs ALL the security she can get && he goes all protective towards any little noise that he isn't familiar with!

So what everyone is saying that the blood tests aren't accurate and there is nothing about anything that is linked to pitbulls in them??? no amstaf, or anything?!

i hope so... && since he is my security i don't want to send him down to my dad... even though i know he'll be in good hands...he's gotta stay here and protect me & the baby.. He isn't an outside dog but that's where he'll be kept until we move down & get him back... dad said he'll make a dog house like the other one we have down there with AC, tile, and a fence.. i don't like the fenced in yard but... it's better than sending him to a stranger where i don't know if my pup is safe....

i hate the stupid drama that vengeful self centered marine wives bring on to the other ones....=(

Hell yes, have the DNA test done! They are so incredibly inaccurate, the dog will probably come back as a poodle/whippet/border collie mix.
