Concerns about Bella's scars
Bella is healing up well.Unfortunatly,she will now have a good many scars from an unintentional 'dog fight'. I work Bella on a flirt pole,she is a fit and in shape dog.Should I be concerned someone will think she is a ''fighting dog'' and call the ACO on me,since she now is scarred up?? How do I handle this with people??? I DO have the vet records from her care,and that of the other dog involved,Mercedes.Would that be enough to get me out of hot water if I am ever in the position???

Keep her out of public and you should be fine.

If you've got vet records for the care I wouldn't worry about it, my rescue male has beat up front legs from who knows what and the only person that's ever commented on them is the local vet.

i dont worry about it at all. you will get comments, and questions and people glaring at you, but i mean, by now you should be used to it owning a pit bull period, just tell him to f off. lol. i had one person yell at me that i was a bad person for phoenix scars on his neck. i shrugged it off

In my experience, over time not much scarring is left from just one brawl. What color is your dog? Dark dogs show scars more. They always look worse the first couple weeks after and accident, but when the fur starts growing back you won't see them as much. One of my dogs has been involved in a few accidents over the course of his life (the trouble maker is 8 now) and unless I am really looking for them, I can hardly see them except for a few particular scars.

I say as long as your dog is well-behaved and under control, your a responsible owner and have a way to prove your a responsible owner; why hide your dog from the world.
My dog is very scared up (she's a rescue) and she is pretty fit. I take her everywhere I go. Unfortunately I'm currently living in an area that has a lot of wealthy stuck up brainwashed people. I walk her daily in a mcmansion neighboorhood next to my house and have had no issues. I get the occasional glare or hear mumbling under their breath but I just give them the wave and keep walking. I always hear little kids asking their moms if they can pet the doggy. The mom's pretty much always have the same nervous look on their faces and say no before the kid can even finish the sentence! I say no if anyone asks or tries to pet her because shes been abused and isn't crazy about strangers touching her. But she is getting better with it every day. If anyone ever asks I just say she's a rescue and if anyone reports me then I have the thousands of dollars in bills to fix her wounds to prove it. |

In my experience, the scars turn up white hairs if your dog has any white on it. Apollo's scarring is mostly only noted by the out of place thatches of white hairs on his head.

All of Hazel's scars also grew in white. I take her wherever I want and I have never had any problems with it. Of course I did not take her out at first when she was still healing.
If anybody is shitty enough to report Bella ACS refer them to you're vet. Two dogs getting into it is pretty common, regardless of breed. You didn't do anything wrong. So I would say do as you see fit. |

Get you some Nu Stock or Sulphidine, and apply it, they should heal up with minimal scarring. NCPrisonGuard says the Sulphidine will grow hair on a bowling ball.... but personally, I can't attest to that. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif
