I totally get your dilemma. He looks like he is a pretty dog, but you say he is a biter. There is a chance his owners could be looking for him but if he is in as bad of condition as you describe he has probably been on the street for awhile. And if you take him to work to have him put down, at this he will be with a familiar face, you. Where at AC he will be scared and alone when or if he is put down.

He pretty much gave up any fight he had left in him as soon as we got him on the catch pole. He literally just collapsed on the ground, turned on his side, and just laid there. He hasn't made a peep, not once through the night.
I'm still not certain what I'm going to do, but I know I'm leaning towards animal control. The poor dog seems relieved at being caged. He isn't being chased by other dogs, shot at, or yelled at. He was fed a big meal last night, given water...I think he just wants to find a safe place ![]() |

There was a slight change in plans. I was running late to work this morning, so I took him with me. I ended up putting him in a kennel in the back. He has a two day reprieve. I've called a person who sometimes takes in dogs that are at the end of the road, with no where else to go.
If this dog acts differently now that he is in a contained environment (less aggressive, basically) I may try to figure out something else for him if the person I called can't take him. Regardless, he wont have much time because I can't keep him at my house, and he can't stay at the clinic forever. |

You're going about it the right way... If NOTHING else, he will have had some peace in the end, not shot dead because he strayed onto the path of the wrong person... He sure is cute.
---------- Post added at 04:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:08 PM ---------- Also, his temperament could do a 180. I've seen it... A dog living on his own, fighting with other dogs for food every day, getting nothing but hostility from people, illness, fear ect. all together really mess up a dog, once he calms down and gets a few days worth of good care, he might surprise you, or he might not. |

Quick update on this guy.
I didn't see him yesterday since I didn't work, but I came in today and went back to see him. He seems alright, he didn't growl or snarl at me. The kennel attendant said he is doing well, he will even allow him (the K.A.) to pet him. I took him out to the run area for a few minutes on my lunch break, and he didn't like me. Didn't growl or show any aggression, but he stayed way clear of me. I think he remembers, lol. I did get a few more pictures on my cell phone, I'll post them up when I get home from work this evening. The people I was hoping would take him haven't gotten back to me, so I think that is probably answer enough. I know the K.A. really likes him, but right now he isn't in a situation where he can have a dog. I haven't seen him and the dog interact, but if he is allowing himself to be pet, that has to be a good sign. Who knows, maybe it will happen. When I had the dog out, I noticed that he has a scratchy, bluish sheen to his eyes. He can't seem to focus very well. The doc was out to lunch, but the assistant was still in and she said it resembled whats called 'moon blindness' in horses, so we'll have to get the doctor to take a look at him at some point. He also walks super wobbly and stiff on his back end. I think he was probably hit by one or more cars at some point, he has some pretty gnarly scars that look like old road rash. So, even if he does end up being a nice enough dog, he may be too broken to find a home for ![]() Today was the day I was going to make the call on him living or being put down, but I just can't at this point. So he will get another few days. |

Here are the pictures I got of him today. They were taken with my broken down old cell phone, so the quality is pretty bad lol
He is a handsome dog, I imagine that after he puts on a good amount of weight and his coat grows all in on his wounds, he will be a very good looking boy. Hopefully, he is healthy enough and finds a home so that can happen. ![]() ![]() |

maybe you can...give him a couple days with you? See what happens? He may be a good dog who was just in a very rough place. Ultimatly the choice is yours, but I would ''try'' to help him-before I made a choice on the euth.If he is too ill or is behaviourally to far gone then you know what you gotta do.YOU are his caretaker now. |

There has been an aggressive stray hanging at the property since the fourth of July weekend. I'm borrowing a catch pole tomorrow so I can safely capture him, because he has proven that he is not afraid to bite. I've asked our neighbors and checked around to see if this dog belongs to anyone, and so far no one has come forward to claim him.
My dilemma is, that I can take him to animal control where he will ultimately be destroyed, after much stress and fear. Or, I can take him to my work and have him put down on the spot. Would it be wrong of me to feel that it would be better to just have him destroyed asap? He is skin and bones and torn to bits by other dogs. He wont allow any one close to him, and he looks fairly old--he has bad teeth--but it could just be that he has had a rough life. I'll likely just take him to animal control and drop him off, but I feel bad about it. Like it will cause him more stress and fear than necessary. |
