Default My Dogs Ears
Hello all, I was wondering if anyone has ever taped their dogs ears down....My dogs ears cant decide what to do...one stands erect and flops in the middle....and the other one folds backwards....she looks cute but i'm afraid they will permanently stay that way....any suggestions on how to tape them down, so they can flop down....i don't want to crop them...

Don't mess with them, they will straighten out as she grows.

You can massage the ears, that will help some, but in the end, they will be ok. Their ears are part of what gives them awesome character.

I wouldn't mess with them. My Sasha, granted she is a mutt. As a little pup had perfect little ears but as she got a bit older they did some real funny stuff. Flipping and flopping every which way. But now as an adult she has 2 perfect ears, we just let them do their thing. I'll see if I can find some photos

Sometimes, Bella's ears look like she's a Great Dane... mainly when she's laying on her side. Sometimes, one will lay over on it's side, giving her the goofiest look. Her ears usually lay pretty flat though, and they always make me smile.

Found some photos

Here she is as a little pup with perfect ears

Then as she got older she went for awhile with both ears sticking up

And as she got a bit older she had one sticking up and one with a flop

As an adult she has perfect ears again

Now I am sure that is not always the case but puppies go through some weird changes

I agree with gluing. I have a thing for breed standards...

Cute!

For awhile Sasha got nicked named "BatGirl" and "Radar" and people joked when her ears were straight up and they stayed like that for a few months, but people joked that she probably was able to pick up sattelite radio with them. Lol. Bella is precious though

I'd glue them if you think they're going to end up looking like bat ears. I hate the bat ear look.

Bat ear? Are there different names for how ears turn out on dogs?

I'm a fan of the rose...plus, I think it's easier to glue a rose than a half prick and have it turn out

Bat ear is my term for "full prick." Which I don't mind on other dogs, but I don't like the look at all on pit bulls.

If you are not going to show your dog, don't worry about it! You won't know what they'll look line until she's matured...

My girl had beautiful rose ears...

Mollie has beautiful rose ears as well. However, a few of our members dogs, Joker or maybe Sugar, are adorable with the full prick, or "bat ears".

I wouldn't really bother if you're not planning on showing.. but will admit that I am not a fan of dogs with 'bat ears'. Just not my thing on a dog I own; I do know a few and think they're pretty cute, but probably wouldn't pick one out as one to own.

Wilson has really nice ears, so does Charlie (so far). Piper's ears are totally 'wrong', but I love them! I told her as a pup that long as they don't stick straight up, it was fine!

Thanx for the pics....Currently my "gorda" looks like she has a half prick on the left and a rose-ear on the right....Don't get me wrong....i love my dogs ears but I would love it if I could make them look the same...

I'm not a fan of the full prick on most dogs, either, but some carry it better than others. Sug, for being what she is, seems to pull it off fairly well, and to be honest, she wouldn't have gotten a home if it wasn't for those ears. She can carry them rose, and does every now and then, but for whatever reason she'd rather hold them pricked.

To me, the ears make the dog! I'd leave them alone.

Everytime I see her it cracks me up! Im not a fan of the 'bat ears' either but she is so cute its funny! I would have taken her home to with those ears too!!

Harleys ears never seem to be on the same page, or head rather. The are ALWAYS doing somethng different. One prefers to flop forward while the other does this horrible impression of a rose.. more like a flat rose really. My avatar is a rare shot where both ears are doing the same thing. As a pup they were always forward but once he hit about 12 months they just went all crazy on me... and at almost 17 months.. well nothing has changed! Still crazy ears but they make me laugh (not as much as Sug's ears though!) If your pup is just a mutt then Id leave the ears alone. If you plan to show or just have a purebred you want to have 'proper' ears them you can try the glueing
