Is your area 'pit' friendly
 

When you're walking in your neighborhood, or are in a public place and someone Asks you what kind of dog you have do you get a good response?
Are people in your area generally accepting of bulldogs?

I haven't had many issues when they actually get to meet my dog. I have found that when people find out I own Pit Bull but haven't met him they assume he is some sort of killer, not all people, but it seems like a lot of people!

I've only had a couple people be literally afraid to the point where they walked away swiftly. A few people were wary, but for the most part, everyone loves Lily, and likes to learn when I start telling them facts about the breed.
But I'll admit, Lily is not what people think of when they think 'pit bull', so maybe a lot of people just think she's a dalmatian/whippet mix.

Generally, yes. One of our immediate neighbors are jerks when it comes to Pits, but since we don't put much stock in the opinion of jerks we really don't care. The rest of our neighbors have been fine with our dogs and I even used them as references to adopt Meia.

Over the past ten years we have seen more and more Pit owners walk their dogs past the house and I have to say, they all seem very well behaved, all are leashed and I have noticed owners going out of their way to avoid possible trouble encounters.

Tuesday, on my way back from taking Meia to the lake, I came across a new face in the neighborhood walking a black and white APBT rescue that looked like a larger version of Meia.

We chatted a bit and I told him about this site.

I would say so. Sinead loves people so much that she makes friends where ever she goes. There are hardly any pit bulls around here, though. Most people seem to have retrievers and German Shepherds.

I'd say so. At many of the local events you see people walking their pit bulls and no one seems too upset about it

Ironically, most people here do not know a Pitbull when they see them and get all blubbery giving out compliments to owners on what well behaved and "beautiful" dogs they have....right up until they are told it's a Pitbull. Then their whole attitude changes. I've seen this particular scenario unfold many times.

They're everywhere in my neighborhood, and the town in general.

I don't necessarily get negative reactions, but most people around here are scared of dogs. I do get a lot of "what kind of dog is that", and my response on the rare occasion when I answer is "you know what kind of dog this is".

I'm happy to say that my neighborhood loves my girl, everyone from the young kids right up to the seniors. My one neighbor absolutely adores Loki to the point where if she see's walking she'll come out to say hi.

One of the BEST things about living in the country, 30 miles from town and very few neighbors, means that I have a pit friendly area.... most everything around me is "my" area. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/tongue.png

I would not know, I say he is an Am. Staff mutt since that is what the rescue labeled him as. 90% of the time the GP says "I have no idea what that is but he sure is cute, look at that coat!" and pet him and he just loves it. Most of the time though I do not encounter anyone on any walks, I walk at like midnight this time of year because of the heat, and if I walk in the day, him being 25inches tall kinda turns people off of approaching him. I get great remarks when people do approach and I have a lady that we have gone by and he has gotten loved on two times in the past few months, I need to go by her house again or she will start fretting over not seeing the big lug lol. I think other than my AC everyone in town likes pits pretty much, the AC guy is an ignoramus and really needs to be fired but he was the one that asked for the job years ago, the dude is seriously scared of dogs and will not catch them, he makes the complainant of a dog at large catch the dog for him.... Sorry for the rant haha.

people in my area seem positive but mine not being fully trained and still young I dont take him to places with alot of people because he still jumps for attention and i dont want people to take it the wrong way lol. but when im walking in my neiborhood everyone is friendly toward him

Yep, where I'm moving to, I'll have two neighbors and both will be on the same 7 acres with me.

Sinead met one (he was worried about having a pit bull neighbor). Let's just put it this way, she ended up down on his front porch playing with him, while we were signing the papers at the other house.

I have neighbor in her 70s that loves our dogs. Our next door neighbor hates our dogs and calls the cops on us any chance they get one us. Other than our one neighbor noone really bothers us about our dogs. Our neighbors like that to think that they leash law does not apply to them so we really do not walk our dogs in our neighborhood that much.

I dont live in the best area and pits a common siting where i live. Naturally most people who grew up here are usually afraid of dogs, since irresponsible owners let them run loose and terrorize the neighborhoods. My girl skye is very well behaved in public in the house she's a goofball. I normally get compliments or is she papered, what bloodnline, how old type of questions.

Unfortunately, almost every other house in our neighborhood is breeding bully breed mixes, but that's why we started Atlanta Bully Rescue here to educate about responsible ownership and breeding. Every time I walk Tank, I get offered a stud fee.
