Breeding

I have a question for breeders or people that think about breeding. Why is that people that want to breed there Am Bully or APBT get bad looks and so much greif about it....But when people talk about breeding a Yorki,Pug,or Labs even its, great and cool i know both kinds of dogs are at shelters and resuces as well to adpot wanting to know people thoughts???

mXr8icOB 07-15-2010 09:07 PM

Thifiadardivy 07-15-2010 09:16 PM

because there are already thousands of pit bulls euthanized every day that don't have homes. there is no need for back yard breeders.

this holds true for any breed. i think people who find BYB of pit bulls more offensive are just people who are more savvy about the breed and know it's already in the crapper.

Actually, people that talk about breeding their pugs, yorkies and labs get the same looks. But, people are less likely to say anything to them because the breeds don't have the same stigma that our bullies do.

goctorsurger 07-15-2010 09:42 PM

Yea true they maybe do get the same looks but they dont vocalize it or it doesn't get the attention as much I should say Reason for my post is because I was on craigslist and i see alot of posting for like yorkies,labs,etc...But dont get flagged but if you post something about your ambully or apbt your flagged no matter what your post says also like in the local news papers

Any one who posts dogs on craigslist should be flogged, not flagged.

If you mean here, it's because it's a Bully breed forum. Though, I am sure many here would tell you just as quickly that if you are breeding a lab just as a pet, it's a bad idea as well.

goctorsurger 07-15-2010 10:30 PM

No not just here on this form just in general

MyOwnStyle 07-15-2010 10:35 PM

I know many hardcore field lab breeders do get a bit annoyed when people breed just to breed, especially when their dogs are the big heavy labs.

Unless you have a purpose for breeding, such as your current dog is the best damn coon dog or retriever you have seen in 20 or so years of hunting with them and you'd like to try and continue those qualities in the offspring, then why do it? Because someone wants a baby of their baby is an understandable reason, but it is not a good reason. They aren't going to get just one and what happens to the rest?

If I want another dog there are plenty out there, if I need a particular dog for a particular reason then I need to have some damn good arguments to convince the breeder of said dog to turn one over to me.

I don't really care what the breed happens to be, we have enough of them already. Unless the breeding is to continue a particular bloodline or blending of bloodlines (thus continuing the desirable qualities of the sire and dam), then there is no good reason to do it for any breed.

i scowl and spit poison because i do not see any point in breeding mutts, especially mutts that have no purpose. And it is worse when someone breeds a mutt and sells it for any amount of money.

I give most people shit when they want to breed their dogs, because most people have no business breeding dogs, regardless of the breed.

In only about 10 years of full-AKC recognition, the AKC version of a Border Collie is now entirely different than an ABCA dog (ABCA being a working dog registry). All the drive has been bred out of them to turn them into fluffy useless creatures. Then, there's the ones who breed them for "candy colors" or for agility. The latter resulting in neurotic dogs with no off-switch.

Most people shouldn't even have any business breeding humans, let alone dogs.

Because Apbt's are meant to do something they are a breed like no other whereas a Yaokie or a pug is just like and arm jewelry except uglier

The purpose of toy breeds was for companionship - yes, arm jewelry http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif

The "something" that APBTs were bred to do does indeed make them a breed like no other. While retrievers, herders, gun dogs, ratters, LSGs, sighthounds, etc all have purposes that assist mankind with livestock keeping, hunting, etc; APBTs were bred to fight each other – basically serving mankind's pleasure/entertainment – not that much different than toy breeds if you think about it.

I agree with pretty much everyone. There are so many great dogs with solid temperaments sitting in shelters and being put down every day, because someone wanted a dog, and bought one that someone was selling on the side of the road, instead of going to the shelter. They may have been "on their way" to the shelter, but saw the cute "puppies for sale" sign on their way, and decided to stop.... end result, the solid, great dog at the shelter was put down at the end of the day because no one came for him. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/frown.png

I cringe anytime I hear someone say they are going to breed their puggle, or whatever. Depending on my mood, I will either try to tell them what I've typed above, or I just don't bother. Sometimes, you can tell who you're wasting your breath on, and who will listen. 9 times out of 10 though, you're just wasting your breath because people see $$$$ and not the welfare of the dogs, or pups, or care if they end up in a shelter one day, waiting for their walk down the hall to the end of their life. It's sad really, when you think about it. Great dogs dying every day, just so people can breed their dogs and make money. I've gotten 2 really GREAT dogs at the Humane Society. Sheaba was only 4 weeks old, in a cage with 10 other pups and no mother, when I adopted her. Maxx was dumped by his owner, tied to a fence and left in the middle of the night. He was between 2 and 3 yrs old when I adopted him. I had Sheaba for 14 great years, and Maxx, for 11 years.... and neither was with me long enough. Great dogs that someone threw out, and I was just lucky enough to find them. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png

Okay, I figured this was the best place to put this.

I was at my Aunt's today. A friend of hers was telling me that she has a beagle/lab mix, and that some people think it has "pit bull". Then she goes on to say that they want to breed him to a 'pit bull' because her daughter likes to say he is part 'pit bull' so (in her own words), "I told her why don't we make his puppies half pit bull." I said why in the world would you breed him, especially to a pit bull? She said, "Because we want to have little Snoopy puppies, and then they will be half pit bull." I said, "That doesn't make any sense," then she ignored me and started talking to someone else.

Later she brings up that my cousin has his GSD at my Aunt's the other day, and that the GSD was in heat, and her dog kept trying to get to her (surprise), and that my cousin told her that his GSD wouldn't get pregnant because she didn't want to get pregnant. I said "Why would you bring a female in heat out? I keep mine in the barn." The lady looked at me like I was a jerk, and decided to talk to someone else again. I just couldn't believe all the dumb things I heard.
