Default Need Help With APBT Registration
Hello,

I acquired my APBT through a wonderful breeder who had the sire registered with AKC as an Am Staff and the UKC as an APBT amd the mother is a pure bred pit from a next door neighbor who they chose not to get registered because they werent going to show her or anything.

This left me in the dilemma of trying to figure out who to register my bundle of joy with.So I researched and the only two I see that I can register her with will be United Canine Association and Continental Kennel Club. I would have to wait till she is 6 months old for both btw.

My questions are:

should I wait and register her when she is old enough?

are these reputable clubs?

I do want to show her when she gets older because she has wonderful confirmation but I dont know if she will get the exposure due to she's not apart of the bigger clubs like UKC. Yes, I know AKC doesnt recognize APBT also.Pics of my puppy are attached.

Thank you for reading,

Martel M.

Unless the mother is registered, you're out of luck. If the owners of the mom send in the registration for the dam, and sign that your pup is indeed out of her, then you can probably get your pup registered with the UKC.

It would indeed be a waste of time going with the CKC, as they don't have conformation shows, or really anything. Not to mention you'd be supporting a registry that supports puppy mills and negligent breeding practices.
I've never heard of the UCA, but a quick browse of their website wasn't very promising. They don't even require a complete pedigree to register.

You can still get a single registry with the UKC (I think she'd need to be spayed), and compete in events like weightpull, but if you can't get her pedigree worked out, PLEASE avoid breeding her at all. No need to add ANOTHER generation of unregisterable APBTs.

Good luck, and I hope it works out. She's a good looking pup!

I agree.

Thank you so much for the reply. I think I will go with the spay option but atleast get to have fun with her by registering with the UKC. I will go that route if I cant get the dam's parents to send in the registration. I prolly will have to pay for it for them to go for it but WTH if its for my pup.

thank you again and anymore insight is appreciated

If you intend on spaying her, then you can register her with the UKC and not have to worry about having the dam's owner send paperwork in with the application.

I am confused. I thought the UKC single registrations were just for the competition of that day and not an actual permanent thing?

Anyways, congratulations on your pup. She's cute as pie!

Just MHO, but all registries are supporters of puppy mills. Even the AKC. Couldn't tell you how many pet store and mill dogs come with AKC registration. The registries have no requirements for care of dogs or even require breeding for temperament and health. They just require the fee and pedigree. So I think its not so much about registry as it is about individual breeder.

No, they're permanent registrations. However, since the UKC closed the studbooks in April (?) the only registration for dogs whose sire and dam aren't already registered with the UKC is the UKC LP program which requires dogs to be spayed or neutered prior to registration.

Documents necessary for Limited Privilege Registration are as follows:

Step 1: Completed Limited Privilege Registration Application,

Step 2: Spay/neuter certificate, or if not available, then have a licensed veterinarian complete and sign the statement on the Application for Limited Privilege Application.

Step 3: Fee of $20.00
