Default dealing with STUPID IDIOT OWNERS
Ok I was walking Goren and working on his formal heel, I was almost home, and this house I know that has a dog (on the same street I live on at a corner) comes barreling around the house after a toy that was thrown from the porch I think IDIOT owner, the toy bounces IN THE STREET...so anyway, I stand still, Goren sees the dog but does not react, just looks at him with normal interest. The dog finally sees us and lets out a Growl, and full on Charges us, I step in front of him, by this time his owner is SCREAMING "OMG, COME NOW!!!!!" and I am standing between him and Goren, Goren did not charge or pull but was more trying to get in between me and him in a protective "this is my pack" kinda way. That lady is luck because her dog did not bite him, she apologized about 4 times after I calmed Goren down and started heading the about 8 houses to my house... there are leash laws, I was POed but did not talk to her, I figure this is a wake up call and maybe she will keep her over weight golden on a tie out (that she has in her yard that goes across the sidewalk ). anyway thought I would tell ya... o and this IS the same dog Goren barks at EVERY day, she walks it around the block and it pulls her the entire way, with very little control, it was about the same size as Goren so about 60-90 lbs because it was over weight.

to lighten it up Goren did really well on the formal heel on the walk, I did anywhere from 3 steps to about 50, he is getting it, even did it on cobble stone which really impressed me, I was working on it without the treat by my cheek and he still did it most of the time, so his wheels are turning

I saw a Golden like that at the vet today. Obnoxious that owners don't train their overweight, strong dogs...

Good job Goren though.

I have a neighbor who seems to think her dog doesn't need to be leashes in her yard... or anywhere for that matter. EVERY time without fail that we walk past her house her dog comes charging out at Bubba and I have to place myself between them so the owner can come running out to grab her dog. The dog does NOT listen a bit.. it is crazy! I am at the point where if it happens again I'm calling the dog warden and she will be ticketed. Maybe that will stop her? I feel your pain!

awww Jrm yea, I would tape it as well because when the warden get's there the dog will be contained...I just pray my neighbor took this as a life lesson, thank god I did not have Lola with me because if I did I woulda probably been screwed because I would have to have picked her up. I just hope this does not make him reactive to golden retrievers, this is the 1st one he has ever encountered.

It seems like where I live people think that their dogs can just run free... but the one lady... she just drives me insane because she blames it on MY dog... whereas my dog sits on my front porch and watches her dog walk by (when it is on a leash) and does not move... if he more an inch I say no and that is the end of it... but I still am not stupid enough to have my dog unleashed!

Seems to be the "way" anymore, nothing is ever their fault and it's always someone else's responsibility. Wonder whose fault it's going to be when her dog gets hit by a car in the street.

i feel your pain i live in a neighborhood where half the street is in the county and half in the city limits so you have half the street with dogs running wild and the other half not so i encounter this often no way around it much and of course i get fussed at for owning a vicious dog blah blah but i just smile and keep going

Big or little dog, it gets kicked square in the head if it comes charging me and my baby girl or my boy. I dont take the chance for them to start the fight, and yes i get bitched at alot for it, but hey CONTROL YOUR OWN FREAKIN DOG, and maybe i would not have to boot it in the face. Not my fault your dog is not leashed or contained. just my outlook... you handled the suituation alot better than i would have lol

I have a guy across the street that thinks he will somehow train his mixed breed to stay in the yard without supervision or leash. He's been "working" on it for about 4 years and no luck. Most of the time the dog is either inside or behind the fence, but a few times a month I see him running after the dog screaming for it to come back and heel with no reaction from the dog.

Couple days ago we had a really bad t-storm and I hear him and his daughters running up and down the street in the downpour chasing the dog and hollering in a panic. I can't even get mad anymore and just laugh at them. I worry about the dog getting hurt, but what can ya do? We already have leash laws and I have tried talking to him, but he knows a good dog doesn't wander

and here I thought I was the only one with the 'unleashed dog' problem. Trouble is in my city, my dog, because of the breed, would be the automatic guilty party...

Yes the same as it is here aswell... that is why all other dogs get the boot, buddy of mine has his dog in the front yard on one of those invisi fences? or whatever they are, the police stoped and shot him directly in his front yard for no reason other than it looked like it was not directly chained up.. but it was. it went half way into the front yard so he could get to the door

wow that really sucks Blakers, I hate ignorance and even more so in police. I think here I would have a chance if a off leash dog attacked my dog, but I don't want that to happen, I don't want that to be the reason he turns on. I like the pepper spray idea, maybe a cattle prod haha, give me some distance and no blow back from wind.

The people across the street from me own a english bulldog pup and some other pup (I pray its not an APBT) they are drug dealers...never talked to them but it seems they are not containing the pups because 3 times this week I saw them out hollering names and getting the pups back in the house. I with they would get busted again (my neighbor said they have been busted many times) it really makes the value of my house go down. Other than them though and the golden, most people contain there dogs around here, we have coyotes so even in town people keep them in fences, or inside. I have seen a decrease in the stray problem since our ACO got a new building (not been over but its like 2-3 times as big as the old one).

I am planning on walking Lola today, I think I will go the other way just in case the lady has her golden out.

Eventually her golden will cause a serious problem and she will get sued. It's just a matter of time. IMHO, your doing right avoiding that house

Ellie yea i know.. its stupid because were in Nixa Missouri... welcome to podunk ville... got a few big towns to the north and south like springfield and branson... (if you can call those big towns) lol... but BSL is not even in my town... the cops just are douches. I was at the gas station with my dog in my car and the window was down, well 2 cops were standing outside (i left my dog in the car running with the window most of the way down while i ran in to get a pack of smokes and a drink) she was seat belted in her harnes... and the cops told me that next time my window better be all the way up or they are going to take my dog for being vicious... she was fricking laying down.... so needless to say the cops in my town act like there NYPD and there just NPD... (and they just got chargers here) so they have been out raceing them every night.. hehe gotta love small towns..

And the next time when your window is all the way up they'll tell you "next time that window better be open some or we'll fine you for animal cruelty."

Yea, been there, can't win with those guys. They don't have enough to do so they have to find things they can "be cops" about.
