Whoever said pit bulls are bad with kids...

...needs to meet my dog! He has very bad manners with new adults. He jumps and gets mouthy and we have been training with him forever to get him to behave and have made very little progress.

However...the second a kid is around, he is ALL manners. He has met quite a few children. Today he met three. The first two were grabbing his face, had their fingers in his eyes, and thought he was sooo small because they had a st barnard at home. He kept a perfect sit, wagged his tail a mile a minute, and licked the little girls face when she tried to give him a kiss. He could care less if a kid sticks their finger straight in his eye, he just looooooves them.

THEN...we pass a little kid with his dad who was learning to ride a bike. Socrates would love to chase down bikers. He has gotten much better but he still pulls toward them. Well...not when there's a kid on the bike! He was perfect. He just let the kid ride by, sat, and watched. The little boy goes "WOW! Now THAT is a really cute dog!".

I was afraid to introduce him to kids at first because he is so bad when he meets new people and everyone that I talked to who has owned this breed before told me he would probably be great. Well, he's living up to the reputation. I thought he might be OK with kids, but I never thought he would be this awesome. Seriously...I should walk a child along with me that way he is always on his best behavior http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif

My Bubba is the same way with kids. He will sit and give kisses and be so polite. With adults it's a different story. I've seen him jump up, all four feet off the ground, to try to lick adult faces. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif
